joto15 Posted April 18, 2012 Posted April 18, 2012 What does this heavy rain do to fishing in areas like Botany Bay or the Hawkesbury? It is better or worse?
luderick -angler Posted April 18, 2012 Posted April 18, 2012 Depends on the amount of fresh and where you fish the Hawkesbury is gnerally a wash out after a lot of rain the exception would be near the mouth and depending on how much they got in the headwaters you may be able to fish the dirty water claemn water line for jewfish, in the bay it will depend on how much fresh comes down the Geroges and Cooks, but being genrally shallow it ca nshut down your best bet again is out near the entrance to the bay depending on prevailingconditions, the blackfish can really come on with the bream arund kurnell anf La perouse at these times as well as the bigger jewfish.
A.dawg Posted April 19, 2012 Posted April 19, 2012 I have fished the last 2 nights in the rain trying to get a hairtail after seeing a few guys pulling them up one being 1.8 meters so I thought heavy rain would keep people off water and get the hairtail to bite. Couple off runs don't know if they are hairtail but it seems the rain has put the tailor and bream on the bite mate caught his pb bream being 44cm and tailor at 62 cm so just depends what fish some are turned on others off
aeb870 Posted April 19, 2012 Posted April 19, 2012 So it is safe to say that the Rain will only ever effect river/lake systems upto and including the entrance (the mouth of the river)? I was thinking of beach fishing this weekend, and didn't think that rain would effect the fishing conditions in the actual ocean. Is that the correct assumptions?
A.dawg Posted April 19, 2012 Posted April 19, 2012 Still does u would know if u saw stanwell beach 3 days after the last big rain we had chocolate even a beach so it still does hav an effect but to a lesser extreme depending on the beach and environment. What I do find is that it's very hard to find gutters after heavy rain but that's just me
the one that got away Posted April 19, 2012 Posted April 19, 2012 Big jews should be going off! They have high tolerance of fresh water, so dont be scared by big rain falls. Only hard bit is finding the bait, in the dirty water!
Harbour Hauler Posted April 19, 2012 Posted April 19, 2012 Hairtail????? This time of year, its a bit early . Next thing you know there will be guys catching them in the harbour.?
A.dawg Posted April 19, 2012 Posted April 19, 2012 I'm amazed myself but water temp has dropped2 degrees very quickly and possibly even lower now I was surprised myself. Ps this is in the harbour
Guest hawkesbass Posted April 20, 2012 Posted April 20, 2012 Harbour hauler hairtail can be caught all year round they follow the bait schools if those bait schools move to other estauries the hairtail will move with them hairtail have been caught in the harbour the hacking and other systems in the past the common perception is they are only in broken bay and surrounds and only in caught in winter some seasons has seen no hairtail caught at all but last year they were around in numbers my boss in qld was getting them to two meters in the brisbane river from his backyard
Yowie Posted April 22, 2012 Posted April 22, 2012 I'm amazed myself but water temp has dropped2 degrees very quickly and possibly even lower now I was surprised myself. Ps this is in the harbour A heavy blast of rain will drop the water temperature up river, especially in cooler weather.
