fisholb Posted April 19, 2012 Posted April 19, 2012 I got a mms from my mate monday night. he went beach fishing down south from 6pm to 9pm. he managed to catch salmon tailor flathead on pilchards using a two hook rig. he got bitten off a dozen times but managed to land a 4kg tailor. its the biggest tailor i have seen. he was using a 40lb leader and two size 2/0 octopus hooks. The spot is pass the royal national park. sorry i cant say exactly where it is. ill upload the picture of the monster tailor as soon as i can download a copy to my pc.

Twinfisher 4.9 Posted April 19, 2012 Posted April 19, 2012 Hi Jamsey, re bait question: did this not give you a clue "on pilchards using a two hook rig"
rikkigilbey Posted April 19, 2012 Posted April 19, 2012 4kg! thats gotta be 80cm+ cant wait for the photo. speaking of weight to length, does anyone have a link to the website that gives you an estimate for weight for a given length? cheers gilbey
wchh Posted April 19, 2012 Posted April 19, 2012 I have caught some "big" tailors too but they were only about 45~50 cm. 4 kg of tailor is going to be the mother of all tailors! Well done! Charles

I'm pretty sure the info you are looking for is on the fisheries website.
james7 Posted April 19, 2012 Posted April 19, 2012 Here is an old FR report about big and record tailor. "In Praise of Tailor" As for the fish length and weight data table, it says a tailor with a fork length of 66cm would weigh about 4.2kg. The biggest (Australian record) tailor I could find was caught in Shark Bay WA in 1981 and was 12.1kg. Cheers Peter

jsab5558 Posted April 19, 2012 Posted April 19, 2012 If only you caught that on sunday for the Pirtek fishing challenge. That would have been hard to beat.
rockfisherman Posted April 20, 2012 Posted April 20, 2012 If that thing bit your finger it wouldn't have and problem reaching the bone with a couple of head shakes.
Guest hawkesbass Posted April 20, 2012 Posted April 20, 2012 If your mates want a spot kept a secret dont take photos in front off buildings i can name the beach off the photo as for tailor they move with the bait schools so if the bait moves they wont be on a particular beach or area for long
trunklegs Posted April 21, 2012 Posted April 21, 2012 Fantastic fish! Would have run well! Well done!
