Hi raiders,

Bit of a long one.

Well where do I begin. Last minute plan to hit the bay. Launch from cooksy at around 11:30 and what a mess. There was so much rubbish in the water it looked like a rubbish tip. In some places you couldn't even see the water. Maybe our local government needs to do something about cleaning up such an important waterway.

Anyway back to the fishing. Water was very brown, as expected, flat and hardly any wind, so far so good. Had some fresh squid and tried dr around the drums for zero. Didn't think we'd have much luck but worth a try.

Tried around the oil wharf with prawns, pillies for a few small snapper and tailor but nothing else. We noticed a few boats make there way over amongst the moored boats near kurnell. They where all drifting flicking sp. they seem to be getting a few bream so we gave it a go.

We didn't do so well. I managed a legal tailor which I kept for bait.

We tried a few more spots but nothing exciting. Anyway decided to hit molli for last drop, and boy I'm glad we did. Tied was coming in, burley going strong baits out, squid, tailor fillet and pillies. Bang!

My bro in laws rod goes off. After a decent battle and no idea of what it could be he brings up hi first and what a first Snapper. In terms of size not huge for that species but man where we stocked especially in the bay. It went 48cm and 1.5kg.

After that things fired up for about an hour or so. We managed 2 fat salmon, a nice bonnie, a few more tailor,,

And just before it got dark my bro inlaw

Decides to bring in his first kingy. Only a rat, went 62cm but still a kingy. A few shots and back in.

I forgot to mention, I had my lighter

Outfit out with a nice strip of squid, when something big and with a lot off weight decides to pick it up and head for Tom uglies. I tried to put the pressure on but every time I did he would put his head down and just go and go. I could feel some serious head shakes. Anyway I was down to my last few meters of line when I had too try and stop it, and twang, gooone. I was gutted, but that's why we keep going back, what a thrill.

Pulled anchor and was home by 7:30pm. What an afternoon especially for my bro inlaw. He really has the bug now. Can't wait to get back out.

By the way any ideas on what I may have lost, maybe snapper or jewy??

Cheers and tight lines

Daniel

great report and nice eating size snapper. Not sure about the lost fish, could have been anything at the container wall, more than likely another rat king.

Well done guys, especially on those nice snappers there definitely good size in the bay.

Not only have the kings got bigger even the snapper which is good news.

Too bad on the way that got away if there was head shakes could have been a larger king.

Last year me and my cousin were fishing bare island / Brown rock side land based and we managed to hook the largest trevally I have seen in the bay, it would have been around 70-80 cm we were so close to getting it out of the water and the braid rubbed on the rock and saw it swim away. The bay definitely has supprises. Next time on the one that got away guys.

Top effort Dan! Seems like the fish are starting to get better in the bay.

Can't wait to get out also on Sunday arvo.

I'd like to know as well what almost spooled you. Moments like those get the adrenalin pumping!

Well done Dan! You sure are a fast learner! That's a whopping snapper by Bay standards! I would call the one that got away for a decent size king, what gear did you get spooled on? Seems like everyone is trying to get out on Sunday, hopefully I can be amongst you all too.

Great report Dan. good fish! As far as cleaning up the bay is concerned well if people didn't dump there rubbish in the water then we would have a garbage problem in the bay. Heavy rain does bring fresh water in the bay which makes it murky but mate its people in general who is pulluting the system . Maybe the government should impose heavy fines for littering and people should take care of the environment more cheers
