alasdair Posted April 26, 2012 Posted April 26, 2012 Hello wise people of Fishraider. I am looking at purchasing a 4.5m half cabin that has an old Johnson on the back of it. The seller says it idles fine both in and out of the water but dies as soon as he goes to move off. I am going to have a look at it on the weekend so will find out more then. What could be causing this. I was thinking old fuel as I know it hasn't had much use, or a split fuel line that is drawning in air. What other things could it be? Thanks in advance alasdair

Thanks in advance alasdair flooding carbs failed power packs if you hold the choke in does it keep running ? id take a old engine with 1000 hours on it but regularly serviced over one thats sat for years and never been looked at they still need servicing once a year even if not being used gear box bolts can become seized, rubber can perish that normally would be ok as it would be smeared with grease every service offer him trailer hull and fitout value only and factor in a repower
alasdair Posted April 26, 2012 Author Posted April 26, 2012 Cheers Juggs. The price that it is being sold for I wouldn't be to worried about having to re power, just kind of hoping it might be an easy fix The boat and trailer look in pretty good nick, I drive past it every day, but will know more when I get a closer look. Not sure about the service history but will ask. alasdair
Plumb Posted April 26, 2012 Posted April 26, 2012 I had a similar problem with my 2005 Johnson, turned out to be fuel. Had to pull the tank out and give it a good clean out, if you've got a small "clean" tank give it a run on that. Not to say its not one of a hundred other things though Good luck Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Guest Aussie007 Posted April 27, 2012 Posted April 27, 2012 those symptoms are often related to fuel a dirty carby or one filled with water or possibly off fuel
