twisty84 Posted April 27, 2012 Posted April 27, 2012 What's the best way to store your catch when beach fishing I usually bleed straight away and put head first in dug hole then into a a bucket it is to much hassle to cart an esky down the beach , does any one have any other ideas
user1829 Posted April 27, 2012 Posted April 27, 2012 Esky! Doh, got nothing for ya... Interested in other strategies too!
aeb870 Posted April 27, 2012 Posted April 27, 2012 I have always been curious on this too, I usually bleed them and leave them on the sand for a little, wash them off in the water and into the bucket. Recently, I have started to fill up my bucket with water, and once bled and dead I put them in the bucket. I am sure there must be a better method, but I really won't be able to take an esky with ice.
Yowie Posted April 27, 2012 Posted April 27, 2012 Usually only fish the beach in the early morning, so I dig a hole in damp sand, place the fish in and cover with damp sand. Not during the middle of the day, because the sand will be too hot. MAKE SURE you know where you have buried your fish, cover the fish with your bucket or find a stick to mark the spot, and be wary that the incoming tide does not wash them away. For the middle of the day, an esky or cool bag with ice bricks.
twisty84 Posted April 27, 2012 Author Posted April 27, 2012 Yeah I have buried them before too I find this is good for keeping seagulls and dogs from the catch too
Spooooled Posted April 27, 2012 Posted April 27, 2012 (edited) some people have buckets in backpacks which makes it way easier to move across the beach in my opinion and sometimes they also carry their livies this way too Edited April 27, 2012 by Spoooled
Jew Stalker Posted April 27, 2012 Posted April 27, 2012 I bleed them, stick them in the sand, wait until they have bled out, then stick them in a couple of plastic bags after I have washed them in the surf and place them in my backpack (which is a cooler backpack) underneath a couple of ice packs with my drink bottle. Sorted. Luc.
Hammo2809 Posted April 27, 2012 Posted April 27, 2012 I keep them them in a bucket and keep an esky in the boot with a couple of frozen water bottles in there ready to chill..
rockfisherman Posted April 29, 2012 Posted April 29, 2012 If you plan to go down to the beach for a short amount of time befor the sun rises high enough to heat things up, you should be able to get away with not having an esky/ice... But if you want to spend half a day there you're best off making the effort to take bag of ice down in your bucket and even better if you have an esky other wise the fish you catch in the morning will be no good by lunch time, plus there's nothing like an icy cold drink on hot day at the beach Fishingphase
