Brian Posted May 1, 2012 Posted May 1, 2012 Hi, Can anyone give me an idea about the ratio of power by running twin outboards v one. Obviously running twin 100's doesn't give you 200hp, but what is the % loss? I am looking at re-power twin 50's to twin 70's but am considering if a 130hp would be a better option. Cost, fuel and having a 2nd motor for safety have been taken into account. Cheers, Brian.
Juggs Posted May 1, 2012 Posted May 1, 2012 100hp at the prop x 2 is 200hp it'doesn't disappear What you do gain is the extra drag of another leg in the water, going from posts on the topic it's estimated at a few percent efficiency loss Also extra weight as generally twins will weigh more then the same hp as a single engine And the addition of extra oil res cables steering fuel lines etc The benefits are substantial though only if hooked up completely independent of each other Ie own batteries and own fuel tanks
