aeb870 Posted May 2, 2012 Posted May 2, 2012 (edited) I was reading a post earlier about advice on catching an Australian Salmon, and one of the members suggest using the "Double-Pinch Method of Baiting Strip-Baits on Circles" for catching Salmon. I attached this photo to illustrate what the "Double-Pinch Method......" really is, as I had no clue until I googled it. But my question is, when would be a good time to use it, and for what fish, and what baits, etc? Also what is the advantage of using a circle hook? I have never really use a circle hook and managed to do ok but don't mind trying something different. Edited May 2, 2012 by aeb870
Marcel Posted May 2, 2012 Posted May 2, 2012 Not to sure about the double pinching but the with the circle hook it usually hooks the fish without u striking and normally every time it will hook in the corner of the fishes mouth a lot better for releasing the fish
aeb870 Posted May 2, 2012 Author Posted May 2, 2012 So are the hooks as effective tho as the normal ones? And by saying they hook the fish, does that mean when I get a bite, I let it sit there until the fish is hooked?

They are more effective providing the fish takes the bait in one go you are pretty much guaranteed to hook it without having to strike. Little nibblers will not be hooked
Marcel Posted May 2, 2012 Posted May 2, 2012 This is correct when the whole bait is taken as soon as the line goes tight the fish will hook itself in the corner of the mouth but if u have little pickers biting they will just pick the bait off without being hooked
aeb870 Posted May 3, 2012 Author Posted May 3, 2012 (edited) Thanks for the responses. So basically when I am targeting larger fish with decent bait, it's not a bad option. How about Live bait, can the circle hook be used for live baiting? Say a yakka? Edited May 3, 2012 by aeb870

I can see the bait sliding down and bunching up at the hook for sure, leaving a poor presentation. I like how the bait is set at step 2 though. I would use that..
aeb870 Posted May 4, 2012 Author Posted May 4, 2012 Not sure, but I think you will notice the bait not sliding down because one part of it is on the line and the other is on the hook. The top part of it shouldn't slide down past the eye of the hook. Then again, I have never tried this particular rig, but have tried similar stuff before.
