Benzeenees Posted May 7, 2012 Posted May 7, 2012 (edited) John and I landed one king each - 87cm and 90cm. I lost 4 - reefed once, hook pulled out once, 2 knot failures. You would think I would learn to check my knots! We were in 45m of water, off Moruya Heads. Picked up 20+ yellowtail in double quick time and headed for "the spot". The breeze was stronger than we hoped so the drift was very fast. But as the sounder pix show, the fish were there. But either the drift was too fast or the fish weren't hungry. During a break from the kings we had 3 big squid grab out livies only to drop the bait just before we could net them. Using a yellowtail on a squid spike resulted in no squid. Why? Do they prefer them swimming? Back to the kings which started to show some interest as the breeze dropped. But they were still very finicky. Nonetheless, 2 kigs is not a bad result. We'll try again tomorrow. Here's the blue stuff again. But this time with kingfish present. The white line is the bottom. I think the red on the left might be coral or weed/kelp. Or mud? Kings again. The blue on the right appears to be some type of growth - kelp? The first 2 pix resulted from a quick drift over the fish. Motoring over the reef at about 10kph gave the 3rd picture. Some kind of bait over the reef with some kings present. Does anyone have any different interpretations of these pix? Edited May 7, 2012 by Benzeenees
