bullpeters Posted May 8, 2012 Posted May 8, 2012 Hi, this is my first post. I live a hundred yards or so away from a pretty nice stretch of rocks on the south coast, and, after several unsuccessful attempts have hit on "my" formula for bream and drummer. I am not posting this to share my knowledge but hoping for some criticism that will improve my efforts. I usually get a couple but sure I miss more than i get! I use a rod from a large chain store with a reel from a decent surf rod (first reel broke under a large drummer) 10lb braid with flouro leader a large pencil type float, but only because I would get fouled in the weed to often coungee, cabbage weed, fish, for bait bread and pilchard cat food for burley I have lived on or by the water all my life and fish a very safe area when the swell is down, I am not very heroic!! I am not above spending some money if that will help catch more fish, but I would rather not Thanks
brettmann86 Posted May 8, 2012 Posted May 8, 2012 Hi mate sounds like you doing everything right for the species targeted my only question is what size hook and so on are you using,
bullpeters Posted May 8, 2012 Author Posted May 8, 2012 8 or thereabout. This evening, started with a 6,i mean the small 6, and it seemed to big, so i went toan 8 got two good downs and both shook the hook out just before the rocks. Boiled eggs for dinner! First time i fished low tide, not nearly as aggressive, very hard to set a hook. High tide i seem to get smashed more. I hear that people remove the skin from blackfish? Any thoughts?? Thanks for the reply

brettmann86 Posted May 8, 2012 Posted May 8, 2012 God that post is from a while ago, you've just given me another option to fish for this weekend if the winds up! A groper bash sounds good to me !! And again mate it sounds like your doing everything right maybe refine your berley a bit I usually try mix some of my bait from last session into my berley as well, like if you were using cungee for bait use the shells or some leftovers in your berley, and are your hooks chemically sharpened? This can sometimes be the difference between a hook up and loosing the fish to landing it, also mix your spots up a bit move around explore 50 metres can make a difference in bagging out to having a mediocre sessions There's a million guys on here that could offer more these are just my long winded 2 cents worth
