John C Posted May 9, 2012 Posted May 9, 2012 Fished off shellharbour sunday afternoon same spot we got the 4.5kg snapper the week before got close to the spot at 230 probaly 300m off the mark and started berly and couldnt stop getting rat kings for and hour so moved and landed right on our mark this time and it was about 4pm fished for an hour and a half and just had a few small runs nothing special but as soon as the sun went down 530pm bang all three rods screamed off at the same time! i grabbed my twin power as the line was peeling off and left my other rod which lost the fish and my dad was on but got snapped off but i still had mine on the twin power and i was in for a Battle! screaming runs massive head shakes 25min had gone by and i knew this was a serious snapper as i was using 20lb braid and 30lb leader and i was struggling to get him up but then finally some colour and and its a huge snapper would have went 8kg easy and then one more run and gone.................... after a 35min battle felt like crying but the fished deserved his freedom......
Zdenk01 Posted May 9, 2012 Posted May 9, 2012 Unlucky mate, there is nothing like that feeling when you see colour you starting getting excited then something lets go. Atleast you know the spot, You will get that magic fish. cheers zed
keenas Posted May 10, 2012 Posted May 10, 2012 You want to tighten your drag up a little more next time Seems a bit to long with the gear you are using. good luck
John C Posted May 10, 2012 Author Posted May 10, 2012 Thanks guys, Yeah i agree about the drag it was still tight but i think i could have went tighter and thats why i lost him i think. i reakon he was slowly wearing away my trace as i dont use circle hooks. TRUST ME ive been going over it in my head 100 times. thanks.
