Hi Guys

Just wondering if there has been any Blue Eye or Gems being caught out at Browns yet? I know the water temp has dropped but its a long way to go for doughnuts.

Im glad to hear they have started to run last season out there was a blast with good catches. Even better to hear there some nice preditors out there which makes the day a real blast.

Im looking at investing in another Alvey King for this season but they are dam expensive new when then adding a 1000m of brain and mounting kit. Does anyone see many second hand units pop up and if so which sites should i be looking on?

Thanks

You will find an Alvey Reef King on e.b.a.y at the moment. That is a nice Blue Eye there I am sure there will be a couple more boats out on the mountain next weekend after this thread.

Here is the link for that reel goodluck and I might catch you out there.

Would you consider taking a 5.4 aluminium cuddy out to browns? Never been but would love to give it a go.

Mate I have been out there in a 4.75 m huffy but you have to pick your days

and twice an much fuel than you think you could possibly need. Ive been planing to head out in my 5.5 I'm doing heaps of smaller trips to gauge the boat and fuel ect. But don't head all the way out there expecting blue eye like that 1st up. you'll need an electric reel, 1kw sounder and someone whos done plenty of trips to hock you up with s few marks...

I head out there in a 5.2 twinfisher with a 90hp 4stroke and use between 60-70ltr depending on weather, don't flog the shite out of the motor and you will use conserve fuel. If you get there expect to get fish its not like chasing marlin, sinker hits the bottom bang your on 10 minutes later fish is at the boat especially when the gems show up. There is always safety in numbers once your out there you feel like you are in bay surrounded by 40 boats fishing the same spot difference is everyone is catching a feed. Sort out your fuel range make sure you have at least 2kg sinkers made from anything that sinks and expect to lose a couple. 600w sounder on 50hz will do the job catching the top on the mountain with picture a litte rough .I once questioned if it was too far for a trailer boat but once your out there with 30 of them on a reasonable day which I consider to be less than 13-15 knots and 1m swell, the doubt is gone and you will be forever on seabreeze waiting for the next chance to get out. Not sure if others agree with this but it works for me and many others out there.

I'm absolutely no expert but surely you don't think people are going to get onto gems like the one shown as easy as that ? I've been out on many charters and fishing " browns" has never produced that caliber of fish.

I'd love to be wrong, but I always thought you had to go wide of browns in around 600m for fish like that.

Id be happy to tag along with any experienced fisho next browns trip. I have a 90hp etec on the back of my 5.4 and have a 110l fuel tank. Shes pretty good on the fuel but i could bring and extra 40l in a jerry.

Some days the gemmies are so thick you hook up before you even hit the bottom, this generally happens in July/August.

fair enough. I I suppose I'll only know once I give it a go myself.

Cheers

I never commented on the size of the fish. That beast is double the size of my best out there. I must agree with the comment of when the gems are thick. I struggle to get a blue eye because of triple hook ups after 30 seconds on the bottom but I am not complaining about catching gems.

Last Fri 3 blue eyes 1 gem.Today 5 blue eyes no gem

My first post on the forum. Fished Brown's with 'rads' yesterday [1/6/2012]. Great day, great weather, no current, no swell and NO FISH. Some excitement though when the electric reel snapped the boat rod it was fitted on. Looking forward to the next trip with a new rod.
