u will need heat to remove that and probably a grinder

when u heat it up spray wd40 over the rusted area it will suck the wd40 and help penetrate it

That looks to be a struggle anyway you look at it. If you can be bothered make up a jar of half auto transmission fluid and half acetone (see the chemist) and paint that around what you are trying to undo. To be honest WD40 and any "domestic" sprays wont' touch that level of corrosion.

Think I'd be reaching for the grinder soon.

depends what hes trying to do to it if he wants to remove and keep the parts i would go to the local pool shop and buy a bottle of hydrochloric acid and paint it on than hose it off it will bring it up like new but the acid wont have any penetration if the part hes trying to remove is rusted inside the clamps or the part the bolt goes into

thanks guys will try the transmision and acetone but normal gas burner wont get enough heat in i tried today but will source someone with oxy thanks wayne

warnie u need more than one of those pencil butane torches a propane torch should do the trick with a 2.5cm tip or if u can get your hands on a oxy that would be the best but u need to be careful u dont melt the metal

Hi, I doubt you will have much luck removing those tilt pins for the inetrnal shock absorbers so just cut the rams away-have done it many times and the engine will not know the difference. As for the tilt tube, if you are trying to get that out to replace it to make it works with thru tilt tube steering you will be better off to remove the outboard so that you can lay on the ground and get a solid surface to hit the tilt tube on, after off course getting an oxy and heating the transom brackets-and even then you will have to cut away the exposed part of the tilt tube.

If you have the time and tools you will get it out and once doen, fit a new tilt tube, bushes and washers and back to new again after all these years, that looking at the photos seems to be an early 1970's engine.

Cheers,

Huey.

thanks craig i have got them all out bar one of the shock tubes which wont budge when you say cut it away do you mean cut through the shockie and do away with all together and what are they there for regards wayne

Hi, they were there back in the day to do what shock aborbers do and releive shock and in a perfect world you would remvoe both and replace both, but looking at the photos you did well to get one out and the cost of the two new parts would be worth more than that engine is worth so yes just cut the rod at either end and do away with it.

Cheers,

Huey.
