kinghightide Posted May 13, 2012 Posted May 13, 2012 Hi raiders, Yesterday I cranked over my etec as I haven't been out in a couple of weeks. When I was tilting up the motor I heard a struggling noise coming from the powertrak motor/hydraulic. All of a sudden it stopped tilting. I than manually lifted the motor onto the bracket. I felt the powertrak heat up a bit but not too hot. About an hour later the tilt worked but than stopped after around 10seconds. There is no visible oil leaks coming out of the PowerTalk and when your trying to tilt up and down you can hear it trying but obviously it doesn't. I am quiet sure the brushes are gone. I would like to know if any raiders have had issues with the Powertrak? Has anyone had to change the brushes, and if so what was the cost of it? I've been told by a mate that he had to change the whole Powertrak which was $250, which is not too bad. Obviously, changing the brushes would be considerably cheaper. My Powertrak is a single piston motor and I have been reading reviews that evinrude have had considerably problems with the Powertrak (apparently the Powertrak is from telwater and not BRP). Is it true that the new powertraks come with a 3piston motor and if so what are the reviews. Are the new 3piston motors brushless and if not have they built a brushless unit?
cheap charlie Posted May 13, 2012 Posted May 13, 2012 Hi Mate, Sorry to hear about your dramas. Huey is the man on all the Etec stuff. Not only is he a dealer but he also is a Moderator on the Etec owners forum. He will be able to answer all your questions and supply you with with recommendations and prices. I am not simply recommending him because he is a sponsor, some of the tech stuff he has written up on the previously mentioned forum shows he really knows his stuff too.
a boat Posted May 13, 2012 Posted May 13, 2012 Hi, you have been told and read wrong, pretty much all Power trim units (not sure what you mean by powertrak-but guessing you mean power trim) are mde by Teleflex and on a 75HP the single ram is fine. All electric motors are very similar and simple in operation so yes you could have worn brushes and I bet you have wing nuts on your battery and loose terminals and I do not care what brand or technology of outboard a boat has these cause ALOT of issues. As for the fast-trac three ram system the 75HP has never come with that and only the X/L V4 and V6 need such a unit. Not expensive to buy a new P/T/T motor and if you are half way handy easy to replace. Cheers, Huey.
