twisty84 Posted May 16, 2012 Author Posted May 16, 2012 Ganged pilli under float --- I am here: http://tapatalk.com/map.php?jd1swg
rjc123 Posted May 17, 2012 Posted May 17, 2012 Lovely long tom. Just make sure you stay away from the business end of that thing. From personal experience, IT GOES RIGHT TO THE BONE!
A.dawg Posted May 17, 2012 Posted May 17, 2012 Ouch ! Would you get longtom ever in the harbour Yes you can you often see the in a pair swimming on the surface ever so slowly looking for prey.
twisty84 Posted May 17, 2012 Author Posted May 17, 2012 What's the best way to cook them --- I am here: http://tapatalk.com/map.php?oqy55c
rjc123 Posted May 17, 2012 Posted May 17, 2012 Would they take a popper or metal or something ? Thats definitely a good way to target them. The alternative is to stick a small pilli on ganged hooks out under a float. The By-Catch is Bonito, Tailor and Salmon.
rjc123 Posted May 17, 2012 Posted May 17, 2012 Is pillie under float meant to look Alive or just drifting dead bait Just drifting dead bait. Works great in summer!
cheap charlie Posted May 18, 2012 Posted May 18, 2012 I caught a pair of them last year near a river mouth targeting Whiting with nippers. gave them to the lady down the road to eat. her report was that she thought they tasted like u know what
Yowie Posted May 18, 2012 Posted May 18, 2012 They are quite common in Port Hacking, most around the 40 to 50cm mark, and they will take nippers from the bottom or on the retrieve. Cut the fillets off and pan fry, similar to garfish fillets, but I prefer the garfish.
