Sorry forgot, Stacer 455 Kingray, close in reef fishing I have a Lowrance HDS5 and I love it, to be honest I havent used it a whole lot as ive only had it for a little while. The menus are easy to navigate and theres plenty of customizing on the fishfinder, thats not with a Gen2 though so I imagine they would be even better! In saying that, I believe Raymarine 50a are as cheap as chips at the moment. I have seen them for around $700 with an upgraded transducer, No idea on what the product is like tho. a boat
Hi, I have used and fitted all three ( I am guessing you mean the Raymarine A50D-no such thing as 50A) and out of those three I would choice the Lowrance HDS-5 Gen2 and at the moment some good prices on these due to our buying power and the deal I have worked out with Navico. The other one I would consider and if after the best for your buk it is the GME G series-Combo. It offers the largest screen in its class, one of the best pixel counts and comes with a Oz wide chart in the price of $850. If you want to learn more give me a call, Cheers, Huey. Wulau
Hi, Huey I am look at Humminbird 597cXi HD against Lowrance Elite-5 Colour Fish Finder/GPS Combo with Navionics XL9 Gold Australia-Wide Chart. kyngfish
Iam looking at purchasing one as well but can anyone tell me the diffrence between the Lowrance Gen 2 HDS 5 and the Elite 5 & Elite 5 DSI. Which is better?

Which one would recommend? I mainly want good sounder then the GPS part of it. thanks Hi, out of those two my vote would go to the HB due to better screen but the Lowrance does have the chart so that is a plus for it. Again, in this price range it is hard to go past the GME though because the screen is notibily bigger than the two you list and it has the chart plus a transducer with water speed as well as the GPS speed. Cheers, Huey.

Which is better? Hi, the HDS series is the top of the tree from Lowrance and the HDS-5 Gen 2 is far superior to either of the Elites. The DSI elite does offer the picture like DI but that is it, no 2D like the STD Elite or the HDS-5 with structure scan. For all about the same money (forgetting charts) I would vote the HDS-5 every day of the week with these units and then you can always add structure scan to not only get DI, but also Side Imagining and the new Structure Map. Cheers, Huey.

Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk Hi, not sure why you are confused because yes the Elite-5X is only a fishfinder but we are talking about the Elite-5 which is a combo and does come with an Oz wide chart. Cheers, Huey.

chr42is
The HDS-5 comes witha world map. What do I get if I buy a Navionic map card? Which one and why?

Sorry forgot, Stacer 455 Kingray, close in reef fishing Don't forget that some units, like the HDS 5, don't come with a detailed Australian map and that can set you back a few hundred $. That said, I have an HDS 5 and I'm very happy with it. I have a Nauticpath map installed - cheaper than the Navionics map. Sadly I don't think you can buy them anymore.
