Hi all, question:

Anyone had a gimble bearing replaced and how much did it cost you? Mercruiser Alpha 1. (50 hours use over 6 years!??)

When in neutral (with flush water on) you can hear a rumble at the rear. Is this the noise a gimble bearing makes or could it be something else?

Hi, we have replaced many gimbal bearings in M/cruisers and the gimbal couldbe one cause of a grumble. You also have universals so if the noist is worse when trimmed and tunred from side to side the universals will also be bad. The gimbal bearing is $170 and depending on condition of leg the labour could be about $300 to do the job. Of course bellows, unis and gaskets can also be required to be serviced.

Cheers,

Huey.

Thanks for the great reply. I will check it out next week when I am out. When I start it at home in neutral it is like a rumble at the back down low. Will do your checks and hopefully work it out. The leg is in brand new condition.

Cheers
