Sambo at Port Kembla

Hi Guys,

Headed out to Port on Sunday morning and was surprised to find people are still hooking up Bonitos there.

Apart from that the only other things I saw being caught was a few flounder.

I headed down about 0800 in the hope of landing a bonnie or another Salmon

Water was very clear and quite calm so I tried the ol faithful paternoster.

After an hour I was on the phone to the boss letting her know Iwas on the way home then bang! I end up hooking a sambo. Turns out my 2nd ever sambo was a PB at 62 cms!

better luck next time i guess

Wow, still catching Bonito?

I went two weeks ago to try my luck at Bonito but there was none around. Are they catching them off bait or lure?

Nice Salmon by the way, need to update your signature now

Nice work dude. Out of curiosity, how heavy is your leader?

Its 40lb mono

I got the stuff really cheap by chance at+_+_) of all places and it is pretty good.

It seems thinner than the 30lb line I got from Syd markets

They were casting out something (more than likely a squid skirt)plus float and doing the who cast and retrieve...I was tired just watching them then gave my Rapala a go to no avail. Apparently the bonnies are still in Kiama near the blow hole

I fished the blow hole once with mates, bloody dangerous! We had all the gear as well, wet suits and cleats etc, still managed to get drenched by freak waves. And when high tide approaches, you need to move well before, or you're a goner.
