stevo-72 Posted May 31, 2012 Posted May 31, 2012 Hi all, as of today up they GO. Reason to make up lost profits due to the Aussie dollar being so high the last couple months. To many anglers purchasing the better quality Japanese model reels delivered to there door with change to spare to spool it with the braid of there choice.
Catchin Jack Posted May 31, 2012 Posted May 31, 2012 Haha, they aren't struggling, the mark up on products is amazing, hence the reason retail prices are so high. Their markup is probably just greed.

Thats the type of shit thats gonna make people look abroad for cheaper prices..Which idiot made that call?
stevo-72 Posted May 31, 2012 Author Posted May 31, 2012 I spent the whole day yesterday going from tackle store to tackle store, was searching for a Tuna outfit and they all said buy it today because the new price list is inforce tommorow.
Catchin Jack Posted May 31, 2012 Posted May 31, 2012 Hmm could this be the unofficial increase as a result of the carbon taxing?
kulch Posted May 31, 2012 Posted May 31, 2012 all the more reason to buy if offshore - they clearly dont think like consumers we can clearly shop the world now with a click of a mouse, the AUD value will always be the backbone of consumer choice - not the RRP locally

It's no joke and we all know it We get ripped offfff totally here in Australia.
hottyscotty Posted May 31, 2012 Posted May 31, 2012 Hmm could this be the unofficial increase as a result of the carbon taxing? 100% Correct! My local coffee shop will raise their prices tomorrow because the price of milk has gone up from their supplier. They read an article saying that gov't will fine those who blame price increases due to carbon tax so they blamed the cows for producing too much greenhouse gaese from methane
CarlRak Posted May 31, 2012 Posted May 31, 2012 Hmm could this be the unofficial increase as a result of the carbon taxing? Forgive my ignorance but how is this a result of the carbon tax? Shimano here in Aus is surely just a sales/distribution business?
Catchin Jack Posted May 31, 2012 Posted May 31, 2012 As I said Nibbles "could" was the word used, not IS. Yes Shimano Aus is just a distributor but believe me, their cost prices compared to wholesale and their RRP prices will have HUGE profits on them. Some light humour on a quiet Thursday arvo.
CarlRak Posted May 31, 2012 Posted May 31, 2012 Gotcha, no tone via text. I notice prices in the US aren't much cheaper. Amazing what people pay for reputation.
Plumb Posted May 31, 2012 Posted May 31, 2012 Hmm could this be the unofficial increase as a result of the carbon taxing? you watch, absolutely every thing will go up if not as a direct result of the carbon tax, because it's a good excuse. I've already had 4 supplier note price increases quoting the tax directly . It's a joke that someone can get voted in ( if that what you call it ) stating no carbon tax, then just bring it in anyway. Any way, my local tackle shop will match pretty much any on line shops price, and you can walk in and talk to them. Cheers Luke Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
LeoB Posted May 31, 2012 Posted May 31, 2012 I guess if they do claim carbon tax, it will be a flow on from transport cost from importing goods. A joke none-the-less, so much for democracy... Cheers Leo
cheap charlie Posted May 31, 2012 Posted May 31, 2012 Speaking of the Carbon Tax, my father is an Auto Elec who also specialises in Air Con, He found out from his supplier of the refridgeration gas that his gas price was going to increase from $350 to near $1000. Most of the competition has already started rising the prices up around the $500 mark. Reminds me of Howards campaign for the top job promising there would be no GST introduction... K Rudd for PM...
Piss'n'Broke Posted May 31, 2012 Posted May 31, 2012 Hmmmm maybe it due to the recall I heard a month ago of the btr series, or the discontinued line of btrs being made due to faults???I think it was the D series. OR Trying to make up some lost $$$$ due to product losses, or maybe admin costs, or "tech support" Dam
shak4g63 Posted May 31, 2012 Posted May 31, 2012 Some greedy retailers start jacking prices up making fools of the public I remember talking to one of the fruit suppliers when the banana crops were destroyed, he told me there was still old priced bananas in supply and some shops started jacking up prices before the expensive ones even came through. So I guess when we shop overseas and local business close down they have themselves to blame for loss of sales.
joel.pringle Posted May 31, 2012 Posted May 31, 2012 Agriculture is exempt from the carbon tax. Hrgh 100% Correct! My local coffee shop will raise their prices tomorrow because the price of milk has gone up from their supplier. They read an article saying that gov't will fine those who blame price increases due to carbon tax so they blamed the cows for producing too much greenhouse gaese from methane
joel.pringle Posted May 31, 2012 Posted May 31, 2012 It's a bit cheeky, considering the dollar has been relatively lower over the last few months. Lower than the last couple of years. Hrgh
kulch Posted May 31, 2012 Posted May 31, 2012 Well they profiteered when the dollar jumped from 80c to $1.10 - close to 30% hike in profits now that the dollar is on the slide again back under $1.00 - its going to eat away at their margins from 12months ago - but still well above their margins from 10 years ago. They are just being greedy, and have a good stranglehold on this market thru a good reputation in quality - people will still pay up for local warantee - especially if our dollar slides even furthur, which would make internet shopping less attractive.
adjustedpete Posted June 1, 2012 Posted June 1, 2012 I just laugh and vote with my cash..There are many reels just as good as shimano if not better. I just buy them.
buzzpollen Posted June 2, 2012 Posted June 2, 2012 Hmmmm maybe it due to the recall I heard a month ago of the btr series, or the discontinued line of btrs being made due to faults???I think it was the D series. Where did you hear this?
PowerFisher Posted June 2, 2012 Posted June 2, 2012 (edited) I was told last week when my local tackle store was ordering me a reel that was out of stock, Shimano australia notified him that prices are going up. I got it at the current price. But you can already see on online shop $350 dollar reels buy it now, are now around $380-400. Edited June 2, 2012 by PowerFisher
