duckegg Posted June 1, 2012 Posted June 1, 2012 Boys and OAF 5.30am start this morning with snapper on the menu. Shark Island first with a squid and a pike. Pike went straight back out with a hook in him...duckegg. Soft plastics at Jibbon no good. Went down to Undola, Tuggerah etc. Few small nannigai then the jackets attacked. Were everywhere!!! Every reef, every break in depth. Hoooked one on a metal slice. Got one nice mowie in close but that was about it. Reckon i went thru 4 packets of plastics. Nice weather though and a feed....just OAF if you are keen let me know. Anyone else doing any good Johno

Rodb73 Posted June 1, 2012 Posted June 1, 2012 Hi Johno, Only fairly new to this site and love it...!!! Thanks for the reports. I have been land based in the Hacking for a long time and only ever manage to do okay...!!! I'm looking for a boat now, on a tight budget, but looking forward to getting out there. Love the land based reports Raiders, but keep the boating ones coming please....!!! Any fish is a good fish.
boattart Posted June 1, 2012 Posted June 1, 2012 We fish south from Cronulla yesterday. Got down the Hump around 8.00 and only managed 2 snapper, a wrasse and a baker by 2.00pm. Not a single jacket but did lose a few plastics. Then stopped on the way back for 15 nice flathead. I did mange my first every snapper on a plastic and first one for the new boat though.

Plumb Posted June 2, 2012 Posted June 2, 2012 And the fish has a big bump too. nice call, Do you anchor up at the humps? I usually drift but I'm leaning towards anchoring up next time Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
boattart Posted June 2, 2012 Posted June 2, 2012 Drift. I'm new to it but all those I talk to say drift. I think that helps avoid the jackets too.

I'm just curious to how you drift with plastics in that depth ? Do u cast ahead of your drift and let it get to the bottom or cast behind and drag along behind the boat ... Any thoughts ? Bardi cast ahead of your drift and fish the lure as you drift towards it in many cases the snapper will hit it as the lure is sinking
boattart Posted June 2, 2012 Posted June 2, 2012 (edited) Hey Bardi, I'm new to this so still experimenting with some of the info I've gleened from stories and talking to others. Yesterday there was near no drift so even unweighed baits were going straight down. I'll attach a link to an article which helped me tie a lot of info into a game plan. At the end of the day I got one fish. Don't know if that means I was right or just lucky but if I can catch fish like that doing the wrong thing I'll be happy. Plumb Posted June 2, 2012 Posted June 2, 2012 Sorry duckegg looks like we hijacked your post. I think the only advantage of anchoring up Is to get a good burly trail going. But I'm usually a drift fisher. Boattart how's the new boat fair in the water? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

MMM drift or anchor? tough one but i tend to drift... Boatart doing better than me at the hump..yet to get a decent one well done. Duckegg
