mattyg_16 Posted June 4, 2012 Posted June 4, 2012 Hey Guys, I am going to target some black fish in the hawesbury (Berowra way)this winter and would like to know anyones tips for locating silky weed. Is it something that can only be done at low tide (off rock etc) or will I have to drag a large sinker through weed beds? Also is it more commonly found in rocky areas or mangrove type areas. Thanks in advance for your help Matt
luderick -angler Posted June 4, 2012 Posted June 4, 2012 The places are endless - ocean rock platforms, the rock platforms at the corners of beaches (it likes a bit of sand to grow through!) anywhere where theres a tidal stormwater drain particuarly those near parks and golf courses (and usually after a fair dry spell) ocean swimmingpools (before they have doused it in chlorine and scraped it bare for H&S reasons) tidal creeks off bays, semi tidal lagoons and ponds off rivers and the ocean. Itsa matter of loking at google and a UBD and going for a drive mate. This year is the first time in nearly 20 years it has bee nnext to non existant and we have been geting 90 percent of fish on cabbage when you can get the weed its worth it! Cheers
mattyg_16 Posted June 4, 2012 Author Posted June 4, 2012 Thanks mate, Sounds like I will have to scope it out in my local area a few times before I can turn a reel. Would they hit cabbage all they way up an estuary? Plenty of beachy/rocky areas in the Hawkesbury so I'm sure I can find it somewhere. Mattyg

mattyg_16 Posted June 5, 2012 Author Posted June 5, 2012 Where bouts d oyou live, i'll PM you some starter spots mate! Hey Luderick - angler I live near Kellyville, and Berowra Waters is my local. Really keen to try esturay blackfish in that area (particually Britannia Rock and the ferry rock wall)then if I have no success move further downstream. I have fished there for a long time but never taken the time out to see what weeds are growing around the area. That would be great if you could. Mattyg
