Yowie Posted June 4, 2012 Posted June 4, 2012 (edited) You are probably all aware that an intense Low Pressure System is forecast for Tuesday 5th June off the NSW coast. At 9pm that date the high tide is forecast at 2.08 metres. The gale force winds will create a storm surge, and coupled with the high tide, there will be dangerous waves along the beaches and in the rivers. Expect the beaches to suffer a loss of sand. Anyone living on the rivers should ensure their boats and other goodies on waterfront properties are securely tied down - would expect a number of boats on moorings to drift away as well. Similar conditions happened in May 1974 ( for those of you old enough to remember ) which caused considerable beach erosion and property damage. Yowie. Edited June 4, 2012 by yowie
Shanemills Posted June 4, 2012 Posted June 4, 2012 Wow so there hasn't been conditions like this since 1975.

Yowie Posted June 4, 2012 Author Posted June 4, 2012 Not that I'm going tomorrow, but if I were, what species would be firing in these sort of conditions? Some fish, such as tailor, jewies and reddies, will be feeding, however, getting a boat to the southern shores will be dangerous, unless you can find a place out of the wind from the shore. Have seen fishermen in Tasmania fishing from a wharf near Burnie in a southerly gale, pulling up fish but to the point where they nearly overbalanced because of the wind strength. Over the years in Port Hacking, have caught jewies when a southerly buster hits, but it is uncomfortable fishing in the rocking boat.

Benzeenees Posted June 5, 2012 Posted June 5, 2012 Wind was gusting to 60kts/120kph at Montague Island but has eased off a bit now. Seas are predicted to be up to 7m, but I assume that's well out to sea. The waves on the Narooma bar (using Coastalwatch cam) appear to be around 3-4m. Weather forecast for the weekend and early next week looks good apart from a few showers - could be some good snapper in close!
Nick1987k Posted June 5, 2012 Posted June 5, 2012 Hey mate I'll be fishing batemans all Weekn ! Is there much fin outside or stick to snapper fishing Nick Barcrusher 610î‡
Benzeenees Posted June 5, 2012 Posted June 5, 2012 (edited) No idea - boats not big enough (5.1 m) for going wide. There have been some nice kingfish off Moruya Heads in about 50m. Hope to get out and see if they're still there on Monday. Edited June 5, 2012 by Benzeenees
Ray R Posted June 5, 2012 Posted June 5, 2012 Yeah 1974 was bad for Wamberal on the Central Coast, 1978 there was another nasty which also did some damage up here.. Gonna go down to Avoca about 8-9ish tonight to check the swell and see what damage the swell and massive tide is doing.
