Benzeenees Posted June 7, 2012 Posted June 7, 2012 (edited) Nearly everything I've read about the Okuma Salina 2 jigging rods suggests that they are spin rods matched to the Salina reels. So I was a bit surprised to find Salina 2 Overhead jigging rods for sale. I was told by one of the sellers that Okuma had been making an overhead version but stopped as most people assumed that the Salinas were matched to spin reels. Okuma now market the Cedros for overhead jigging and these rods appear to be similar to the Salina (same length, line weights etc). Anyway, I have bought one of these Salina 2 Overhead rods (24 kg) for $70. The normal price for the Salina is around $150 with the Cedros selling for around $170. If anyone is interested, PM me and I'll provide details - or just do a google search. I'll let people know what I think of the rod after I've used it - assuming the kingfish haven't left the Moruya Heads area for warmer waters! Edited June 7, 2012 by Benzeenees
Benzeenees Posted June 21, 2012 Author Posted June 21, 2012 (edited) Took delivery of the rod. Looks very nice and was quite light. Definitely designed for an overhead reel. Used it first with some live yellowtail and it really handled 80 cm kings with ease. But when jigging I thought it was a bit too stiff for the jigs we use. So I have ordered the 15 kg model as well. At $70 I can't really go wrong can I? Edited June 21, 2012 by Benzeenees
matt84 Posted June 21, 2012 Posted June 21, 2012 well seeming how the alps reel seat n fuji guide are worth well over $100. its a good bargin.
Benzeenees Posted June 21, 2012 Author Posted June 21, 2012 I hadn't thought of that. But unless you're into rod construction there's not much use for second hand rod bits!
