MidNrthFisho Posted June 7, 2012 Posted June 7, 2012 Hey guys, With all these reports of jewfish being taken I am keen to get involved in some of the action! I keep getting told that 'a friends friend' or that someone has heard of good jewfish being caught at clifton gardens, but have never been told of any first hand accounts of any jewfish taken! I was wondering if anybody on here has heard if any Jewfish have been caught there, or whether it is one of those things where people talk it up when there aren't many fish being caught! Just curious to see if there is any fact behind the stories Cheers guys Michael
tw9635 Posted June 7, 2012 Posted June 7, 2012 Only ever sees one caught there. It was around this time last year at night this old guy was using a hand line and chicken and caught a jewie about 40 cm not very big but he still kept it.
Spooooled Posted June 7, 2012 Posted June 7, 2012 if your heading up to clifton gardens ill say spit bridge would be a better go, as its probably better know for its jewfish?
Basil D Posted June 8, 2012 Posted June 8, 2012 a friend of mine has caught a few but put in big hours.
Jewhunter Posted June 8, 2012 Posted June 8, 2012 You would have a better chance at Georges Head. If you can get a spot & wade through the rubbish that is. Cheers, Grant.
Basil D Posted June 8, 2012 Posted June 8, 2012 also try these spots, they are deff goers manns point, balls head and blues point all have got jews at night, I havent fished them but friends of mine have good luck
rjc123 Posted June 8, 2012 Posted June 8, 2012 +1 for the spit mate. The by-catch is big bream and flatties
marcel haber Posted June 8, 2012 Posted June 8, 2012 never heard of or seen jewies caught at the spit - this is not to say that they are not there but if people get them there they are very secretive about it.
Sika Posted June 8, 2012 Posted June 8, 2012 Got my first jewfish at clifton gardens around 14 years ago off the wharf. I was casting from the arm on the right where the fenced off pool is. This is not by choice as I prefer the very end but it was always taken. I Don't fish there much these days but back then you would see trawlers netting the top part of the chowder bay at night. I'd imagine with the ban the place would realy fire up.
jrakasp Posted June 9, 2012 Posted June 9, 2012 i used to fish clifton fair bit few year back Never caught or seen anyone catch jew at clifton gardens i say try parra river
