chewie Posted June 16, 2012 Posted June 16, 2012 Erroll and i fished Longreef yesterday morning before the weather turned. We had a good day using only lures firstly targeting snapper on plastics before having a jig wider. We managed to catch plenty of rat kings, a nice 52cm snapper, trevelly, pike (including a monster 51cm model that took a jig intended for a kingfish) and a few other surprises including a massive ray which took 20minutes to lift to the boat after it was hooked on snapper gear and a plastic. Erroll managed a nice 76cm king on the jig then got reefed by a much bigger fish which left him a little depressed. All in all it was a great day with fish consistently coming over the side all day. The water quality was pretty poor inclose but better a few kms out. chewie
rjc123 Posted June 17, 2012 Posted June 17, 2012 Great session fellas You still did well to manage a few nice fish considering the weather we've been having! I can imagine the fight with the ray very well. I fought a rather large ray in Noosa on 2-4kg stick and 4lb braid. Took 50 minutes to get in!
PowerFisher Posted June 17, 2012 Posted June 17, 2012 Well done on the good fish guys, there is good fish outside just needs the courage to head out in this weather.
erroll Posted June 17, 2012 Posted June 17, 2012 Still haven't recovered from being bricked...... I'll get my revenge!!!!! Great day though chewie. Cheers erroll
johnopaparoulas Posted June 17, 2012 Posted June 17, 2012 if u dnt mind me asking how far offshore u got the kings?
chewie Posted June 17, 2012 Author Posted June 17, 2012 We had kings at most of the marks we tried. All within 5km of the coast.
