Hi everyone!

We went fishing today and caught this shark/ray? Can anyone please identify this?

Felix caught it on nippers from Bundeena beach.

Yeh mate, definitely a shovelnose. They go hard when they get bigger. Often mistake the biggens for big jews or bull sharks.

what about this fish? is this also a shovel nose?

I was told this could also be a banjo shark

Thats right mate. They get big up north. Only ever seen small shovelnose to a max of 1m in NSW. I'm sure there are some bigger ones though! One time up in noosa i caught 3 over 130cm in one day on live mullet. Biggest was 163 from memory!

I'm sorry Mac attack but I think you have not identified this sepia fish correctly ones that size are called "jack hammer nose sharks!"

Got a pretty big shovelnose myself years ago just ouside the river in Cairns. Nearly as long as me and I'm 191cm. Unfortunmately in the pre digital camera era and I no longer own a scanner.
