Avalon395 Posted June 18, 2012 Posted June 18, 2012 Hi Guys, I have made the rookie mistake of putting too much oil into my Four Stroke 30hp Yamaha. Is there anyway to drain the oil? What is the easiest way to drain it out...? If I run the engine with too much oil what damage can it do? (just for interests sake). Thanks
The Incredible Hull Posted June 18, 2012 Posted June 18, 2012 I have no idea about 4 stroke outboards, but if its anything like a car engine, too much oil means it will overflow into the combustion chamber, and igniting a big mixture of oil. You'll get heaps of white smoke from the exhaust. Not entirely sure what damage it can do... but I don't think its lethal. Surely there should be a drain plug somewhere?
Testlab Posted June 18, 2012 Posted June 18, 2012 Depending on how much it is overfilled you can do some serious damage. Drain some then check it again. The drain plug is at the rear, down low on the intermediate unit. The owners manual for a 2005 is here and should help enough to get you out of trouble. http://www.yamaha-motor.com/assets/service/manuals/2005/LIT-18626-06-02_1040.pdf
Guest Aussie007 Posted June 21, 2012 Posted June 21, 2012 its usually a big bolt half way down the leg more towards the bottom u cant miss it
bisso Posted June 21, 2012 Posted June 21, 2012 Too much oil is not good!!! your crank might be swimming which throws the oil internally. not to mention the extra work it has to do each time it passes through the oil... very important to get the level correct asap!
