Hi Fish raiders,

I took a mate with me this morning down to Lady Robinson Beach. A low tide was due at around 11.40 but I thought we might fish between the groins just north of Ramsgate. I set my mate up with a 9ft Daiwa Aussie Stick fitted with dohhh BB200 reel with 8lb Mono, rigged with a 7" soft plastic beach worm in orange. I had success with that bait earlier this year at the same location, taking 3 flatties in 15 mins up to 35cm, all released. The long rod was so he could get some distance on his casts as he was a bit of a newbie.

I took my Rovex 2peice 7' rod fitted with an older Daiwa reel spooled with 4kilo braid with mono trace and leader, rigged with a 4" stick bait in watermelon and pink.

We hit the beach at about 10.15, walking up and down the beach either side of the two southernmost groins for an hour and a half without so much as a bump. We tried every type of retrieve we could but there was either nothing there or nothing interested in our offerings.

However the morning was so beautiful with a light westerly at our backs and the sky so blue, neither of us considered the time wasted. Just disappointed that the flathead have possibly move elsewhere at this time of the year. Never mind. Hopefully the location will be more productive come spring.

Hi there,

I fished the beaches at Ramsgate, Dolls Point etc a few times over the last two weeks and have got nothing for my troubles. Tried hard bodies, soft plastics and live nippers. Think I am going to give the area a miss for a little while and go for some drummer from the rocks instead.

Good luck

Thanks alasdair,

I'll report the area again in September / October, when the weather changes for the better (hopefully). It's a good location, especially for those living in the St George region, and really produces when it's on. It's also a great spot to take the young'uns for an introduction to fishing with both bait and lures.

Stay warm,

Nursie

Totally agree with you. Great summer evening spot to kill a few hours. Had some good catches there this year on flathead and whiting, plenty of travally up until a few weeks ago as well. Might go down and soak a few big baits for a lazy jew/nothing on TV session one night. But apart from that will probably wait, the same as your self till it warms up a bit.
