locodave Posted July 2, 2012 Posted July 2, 2012 I'm about to change my trailer plug on my car again. Probably twice in 6 months, keeps getting rusty. Is there a good plug out there with stainless screws and connectors?
Geoff Posted July 2, 2012 Posted July 2, 2012 I give the internal of both the plug & socket a spray with Inox once or twice a year. Externally , more frequent. I've found Inox provides better protection than WD40 Geoff.
locodave Posted July 2, 2012 Author Posted July 2, 2012 What about adding silicone around the terminals?
dunc333 Posted July 3, 2012 Posted July 3, 2012 im sure we have talked about the plug before but cant remember if it was you.If you are replacing plug every six months and your terminals are rusty.1,you must be dumping plug into salt water when launching which wo iuld be hard.2 or you have a slight short some where in the system which is making the terminals corrode which my money is on ,let us know what you choose i use the plastic rectangle 7 pin and only had have had to replace once in 10 years due to a short which caused the pins to corrode and it would have been impossible to find the short without a multimeter as every thing seemed to be working fine at the time but i knew the internals of the plug would not corrode like that if there was no problem ,i hope that helps cheers dunc333
