elferoz777 Posted July 2, 2012 Posted July 2, 2012 Hi Guys, Had the day off today so I decided to go fish. Started out at Coal cliff off the rocks. Real nice spot lost of deep water and by the look of it would be a killer in summer but for me today....got nothing. So I then head for Stanwell pk. I had to walk through about 20 meters of ankle deep water to fire off a cast otherwise I found I just kept hitting the sand bank (bloody wind didnt help.) I was fishing from the southern end int he channel moth that forms near the southern rocks. As per usual I hooked up a few salmon. I couple bounced off so I only managed to land one ad 67cms...a new PB. When I work out how to get photos of this crappy nokia I have I will upload. The ones I lost would have been bigger...they fought hard and pulled like mad but I lost them when they jumped out of the water. I send a salmon fillet out in the hope of something interesting....only got a few hard tugs but nothing would stick. Well I started 2012 salmon-less and courtesy of the advice I got from this forum salmon is all I bloody catch now!! Hopefully I can translate the my learnings from these species to more desirable species like kingies or bonito. I know now that I need a half decent reel (one more than 30 $ including the rod) and may invest in some braid.
fisholb Posted July 2, 2012 Posted July 2, 2012 Mate...at least u caught something...maybe u should change your rig n bait to catch other species like bream trev flatty...try using prawns or chicken... About the reel...u can get a Penn slammer for around $100 online...760 model will handle most of the big ones... I still got a jw surf combo I bought back in 2008 for around $40...I caught kingys salmon bonito PJ on that n most other species... You just got to be there when the fish r there..
Rafinx Posted July 3, 2012 Posted July 3, 2012 (edited) Hi mate not trying to pirate your thread. I ended up going close to stanwell tops beach, caught 12 salmon all up and 2 tailors last night. I would like to catch something other than salmon aswell. Edited July 3, 2012 by Rafinx

These are also on sale in Tackleworld, if you are a bit weary of internet purchases like me. My mate bought one to use down JB and they handle really nicely. Very smooth, good drag system. Had it lined with 30lb braid and a aerowave graphite heavy surf rod for just over 300. back on topic, congratulations on the catch mate, been pulling up donuts around here lately. Bring on summer!
elferoz777 Posted July 3, 2012 Author Posted July 3, 2012 Yeh I got one of the tackle work 40 dollar specials the other day.. The reel is good. In fact all my good catches have come from the 10 ft JW combo I got for $30 and that was cause I was too tight to get the 12 ft rod combo for $40. They seem to hold well
elferoz777 Posted July 4, 2012 Author Posted July 4, 2012 Finally worked out how my nokia can transfer photos to the PC. Here is a pic of my missile shaped fish.. My dog absolutely loves these and they seem good for his coat.

My dog absolutely loves these and they seem good for his coat. Nice Sambo's and congrats on the PB. The mention of your dog reminded me of a night's fishing at Narrabeen years ago. My mate brought his pooch with us to get him out of the house for the evening. Anyways, I caught a ripper of a tailor, prolly about 45 -50cm from memory. So I could find it in the dark, I buried it head down in the sand with just the tail fin protruding so I could see it against the streetlights. We fished on for another hour for zilch. Walked back up to our kit and, would you believe it, the bloody dog had dug up me tailor and scoffed the lot. Honestly, if it hadn't already been desexed, I would have kicked a couple of field goals! Keep reelin' 'em in. Cheers, Nursie
