roosterman Posted July 3, 2012 Posted July 3, 2012 well i had a plan to take number 1 son to smash a few blackies early sunday but was looking in jeapardy as weed was near imposable to source . the one spot i know has plenty i was not able to get to in daylight hrs so week old stuff was gonna have to do. to my surprise #1 son was eager and woke himself up before daybreak so we made our way to one of my easy spots to fish that was holding good fish recently. got there just on dawn and no burly, week old weed and freezing wind. took a while for the fish to feed but a couple other guys started getting some fish on much darker fresh weed.. eventually my boys float goes under and he lifts rod and fish goes nuts... it scoots right and into structure then with a little help we swim him out to be taken 15 meters to the left and into big trouble. no choice so i instruct him to lower rod a little give fish his head and he thankfully turns into open waters again wooohoo we got a 3rd chance... after a little bit more darting around we net a very fit fiesty luderick around 35cm that fought well above his weight. . hi 5's and we try for some more.. shortly after my float goes down and as i set hook my rod completely doubles over and im in alot of trouble here.. i lock up as he burries my and it soon ends with my 6lb leader giving way shortly after my boys too cold so we say farewell to the 2 other guys who had a good bag and they gave us 2 fish so we have a feed. thx again guys if yr reading this.. back home by 8.30am a couple happy snaps then breakky to top off a nice cold but successful session.. even though i didnt land one i was a very happy chappy. the 3 fish i cleaned were choccas with food and all fish i saw hooked went nuts and were very fiesty. cheers....steve......
Keflapod Posted July 4, 2012 Posted July 4, 2012 Well done Steve, Mate when a kid wakes himself up before dawn in winter to go for a fish - there's no way we're gonna let them down. Seeing the smile on your son's face was worth braving the cold, wasn't it ? He'll be raving about it even more than usual because it was a hard-won fish - braving elements, structure and using crappy weed ! Kudos as well to those other good-hearted guys who gave you a couple of fish to complete a meal. People like that are not as common as they once were. So looks like you have a score to settle with the local big blackies there eh Steve ? Or maybe it was a surgeon.... Or a big hunk of kelp being dragged in the backwash... I'm sure round two will have fresh weed and burley on the cards and if your son does you over again, well, you won't have any excuses eh ? He will be the master and you will be the grasshopper..... Well done mate - look forward to another round on the blackies... Tony
