Fished off Moruya Heads with John on Sunday. Perfect coditions. Started the day with a live well full of yellowtail and smallish (perfect sized) slimies. Light wind, little swell - headed for the kingfish spot at 45 kph. Plenty of fish on the sounder but they didn't want to play. John had a cou[ple of half hearted takes - but both dropped the bait. Tried a few other spots for flathead, snapper, anything! No luck. Back to the kingfish. Had one take but the bait was dropped. Then, late in the day, a big grab and line was taken at speed. I set the hook and had to hang on - it felt like a good fish. Got it up to about 5m below the boat and then - it was gone. Pulled my line in and the heavy duty snap link to which I had connected my leader had broken! The air turned a bright shade of blue!

Next day - still no luck with the kingfish, but 8 good flathead to 53 cm, a small mowie and a 1 kg snapper were some consolation.

Bad luck about about the king mate. I don't trust those snaps I avoid using them if I can. The less parts of a rig that can fail the better.

We go out of Mossy Point. Big boats can find it a bit shallow at absolute low - 0.4m. We fish off Pedro Point in about 50m.

I thought the king I lost might have been about 90cm - it was certainly putting up a decent fight. But thinking back on it, perhaps it was more like 100cm. Or even 110cm :biggrin2: . Maybe would have been a world record!
