reubs Posted July 18, 2012 Posted July 18, 2012 Went fishing off the north of manly beach tonight..north of the pipe...lost a bit of gear but nothing too major...cast a line from the pool edge towards the rocks with squid on gang and got one good run that was heading straight out but threw the hook not long into the hookup...had pillies on gang out on 3 rods as I took a first timer with me and another mate both from work so it was a bit disappointing that we couldn't get him onto a fish on his first outing but he still had a good time..manly seems to be quite flat on the north side as far as the beach structure goes..I couldn't seem to find a decent outbound rip and it kinda felt like the water was only 2 ft deep... To be fair I was fishing the outgoing from about 10:30 to 12:30 tonight but didn't seem to produce the goods...back to the drawing board until tomorrow I guess...anyone been successfully hitting the beaches lately? kadavu Posted July 19, 2012 Posted July 19, 2012 heard of a few salom and tailor being caught off manly but not sure what they were caught on
On Strike Posted July 19, 2012 Posted July 19, 2012 Hi Reubs, I fished Palm Beach with the kids on Monday afternoon. Got Salmon, Bream and a couple of bust/bite offs on dusk. Fished Pillie tails and heads on single hooks. Some nice gutters up there. Heard of salmon and tailor off the beach at Curly too. Paul On Strike
Robofish Posted July 19, 2012 Posted July 19, 2012 I have been picking up salmon most trips - best time has always been on dusk, just find a gutter (even a small one) and I fish a ganged pillie on the bottom and have a surf popper on a short trace from the top of the rig. Last Sunday I landed two salmon on one cast. Great sport on light gear. Hope this helps Dave Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
reubs Posted July 19, 2012 Author Posted July 19, 2012 I've usually been getting at least one salmon from the beach, I went again last night to north narrabeen and around the pines at narrabeen but it was too windy so my bait was only about 5 meters in front of me and not even a munch...fished from 4:30 to about 6 then called it a day... Thanks for the tip about palm I've been considering going there but it's a long haul from parramatta as is narrabeen really but it's a nice drive. I usually just fish unweighted whole pillies on a rig with 3 3/0 or 5/0 hooks and it usually produces the goods...I pulled a cracker of a bream in the estuaries on a whole pillie on gang before but the last few days have been quiet....maybe I need to better learn how to read a beach
