big Neil Posted July 20, 2012 Posted July 20, 2012 Recently had a week in Merimbula, an area I'd never fished before. Got some good local knowledge from Jewstalker and we managed a few hrs on the sandflats of the Bega River together. We managed to score a few flatties. I spent the next few days exploring Pambula lake and managed some nice bream, flatties and trevally, though the wind made fishing very difficult. Heard there were some whales frollicking off the Main Beach at Merimbula so went down for a look. Great to see these huge mammals playing just offshore. While there I happened to notice the potential in a few well-defined gutters so decided to have a few hours fishing early next morning, before light. Caught quite a few Salmon including a monster just under 4 kgs...next morning I managed a 3kg plus model from the same gutter. All in all a very worthwhile trip and I didn't even get to explore Merimbula Lake. Looks like another visit is in order. Big Neil.
brendong Posted July 21, 2012 Posted July 21, 2012 Sounds like a great trip mate....awesome part of the world the far south coast....so many places to explore and quality fish to chase down...would have been really quiet on the water mid week, just about have the place to yourself...

Yep and the wind probably deterred a few too.
Jew Stalker Posted July 27, 2012 Posted July 27, 2012 G'day Neil. I just got internet on at my new house in the blue mountains so couldn't get on here until now. I had fun coming out for a fish with you, sorry I could't do it again and show you other places but it looks like you got it sorted. Glad you had fun and got onto some nice fish. The conditions were tough over those few days with the wind and currents but there was still fun to be had and you definitely made the most of it. I am not surprised to hear of the whales off the beach, we see them all the time down there and they are awesome up close in person too. I will never forget the time one surfaced just in front of our boat as we were fishing away. I can't wait to come up your way and smash some of those monster carp. Till then take care. Luc.
