Fishing Poles?

Hi Folks,

Now that I'm a member of this knowledgable bunch, I want to pick people's brains. Every now and then I see people fishing with fishing rods with no guides and just a line tied directly to the end of the rod, they're usually a bit longer than regular rods. What are these? And what are they used for?

Thanks.

Simon

This method of fishing originated from Eastern Europe around Turkey and the middle east around the mediteranean sea. The fish don't get very big close to shore around there because they used to use grenades to get their catch and you can only imagine the after effects of that. I've got one in the garage i was thinking of using it for baitfish like gars or yakkas and maybe even mullet but haven't gone around to using it yet.

See a lot of people fishing for yakkas and slimies with them off wharves. Just a couple of meters of line tied to the end, they lower it into the water and fling fish out as soon as they get a bite. Good fun to watch :biggrin2:
