Need Help Guys

G'Day Raiders,

As the title describes I need some help with fishing.

Basically in the last 5-6 sessions on the boat, actually every session on the boat, has been horrid.

No good fish to show for it. So Im basically asking if anyone is keen to help me out.

I mainly fish the georges river as its my local and can get there fairly quickly and easily.

Ive been fishing with peeled prawns for bream and whiting, fresh squid and frozen squid for jew and if possible i try and get live mullet for bait, but that usually goes pear shaped and end up with zeros in the poddy trap.

Id also love to learn to fish for blackies in the georges as its prime time for these guys at the moment. I have had good success in the georges before (bream and jew) but its been a very long time since ive had a decent session.

The main thing is I just got a boat and basically dont know where to fish, so me and my brother just sound around and fish countless spots.

Sometimes we even end up down in Botany cause we have travelled that far. We go off what we know from fishing shows (trust me i watch heaps). Like all the different structure and drop offs and holes

but yet we seem to fail. I have done so much better fishing landbased than on our new boat which kinda sux as we got the boat thinkin our fishing should be a lot better now.

So the plea goes out to our fishraider mates to see if they can help out a fisho in need.

Cheers in advanced guys,

Jez

Don't blame the boat Jez it's an asset! Can't help you with the Georges I mainly fish the Bay but I do know that fresh bait is the key to success. Don't despair because there are plenty of guy's that fish the Georges and I'm sure you will get plenty of good sound advice. I'm sure we will be reading about your PB's soon.

Cheers

Daniel

Mate i got this feeling my boats cursed lol. When i fished georges landbased did really well Jewies and good bream where a regular occurance. Now that i fish from the boat it seems like they dont wanna play. I just really need advice on how to fish an area with the boat and how to drift spots and to anchor properly and how to set a proper burley trail and then fishing into it etc etc. I know sometimes the fish just wont play, but countless outtings for zero is starting to really annoy me. Its not just the ammount I spend on fuel, bait, gear, food etc etc its also the time and effort. So many freezing cold mornings and nights ive fished hard for nothing. It was like when i was chasing my first jew, except I got a result in the end 1m+ jewy from the georges. But this whole boat situation has got me going backwards.

Raiders I need your help !

so you've caught jewies before? I assume you're going at the exact same times (tides and moon phases etc) and exact same locations\drop offs? And you're not getting any fish? If you're doing the exact same thing as you were landbased, then simply the fish are not there.

Another point to add, when fishing on a boat, you can use lighter line and gear, as you can easily net the fish compared to landbased. Try using lighter line and lighter sinkers maybe.

If that fails, blame winter and\or move to another area!

Hey mate, yes I've been fishing the drop offs n holes I know and also been exploring alot of new fishy looking spots ! And yes I do fish alot lighter on the boat ! I generally fish 2 setups for the George's I have a 6lb setup to flick lures and lightly weighted prawns for bream n flatties and I use a 20lb SP setup for bigger lures and bigger baits ! I don't use any heavier then that on the boat as i haven't landed anything worthy of heavier gear !

I'm not sure if it's just winter cause I've been fishing hard since summer n even though summer was more productive, sessions should have been alot better !

Como bridge on the south west side, anchor over the shallows and cast a Jew bait into the channel and your bream baits on the drop off. Rising tide is the go.

Captain cook bridge... Anchor up so your transom is facing the deepest pylon about 30 Mtrs away and cast your baits to it. Good bream, flathead and Jew.

Hope this helps... Don't give up champ, keep at it you'll get it!

You'll be right jez, your not the only one thats not catching anything sounds like you are doing everything right just need a bit of luck by the sounds of it

I would try fishing the harbour also as I have had success in the cold months if you wanted I can show you a couple of spots one weekend that you might catch something.

Also another thing worth trying is shallow area's as the deeper waters might be a little cold for the fish.

Regards,

Nathan

Hey Nate how u doing man !!

Jewfish is on the ball mate, during winter I fish the shallows around the tide change in the Bay catching some good Bream. A good standby bait when their finicky is Chicken marinated in garlic, don't know why but they love it, I also burley using chicken pellets & tinned tuna. Keep plugging away mate!

cheers

Hi Mate,

Water is cold which will always make it more difficult for good results.

Would suggest to fish as light as possible. Always use flurocarbon leader.

Try live baits, IE worms or yabbies. Will outdo a deadbait anyday, thats just my experience.

I usually fish the bay out of a boat so right up the river Im no good on the boating front. In the river I would suggest to fish ledges, or narrow parts of the river. Theory is fish travel through, if its narrow, you got more chance of your bait being investigated.

That's actually a really good theory man didn't think of it that way !! Will definately be hitting up the narrow sections !! Also I'll grab a couple of live nippers n worms on my next trip and give it a go !

Thanks for the tips matey
