Gday All, well looked promising all the way to the heads, light winds from the nw, barely a vessel on the harbour, clear skies and it felt all mine, you know the feeling! Anyway nice gentle ground swell from the se up to about 1m and little wind from the nw. Headed down coogee way and begun in about 80m. This is where the promising ends. Plenty of great fish showing on the sounder but you had to get through the leatherjackets. Honestly have not seen it this bad for a loooong time especially so close to shore we ended up later in the day in 40 odd meters off bondi and still plagued. It did not matter where you were sth of sydney heads the jackets just were there.

So what is even worse are the number of little ones inshore that is up to 10cm lurking on the ends of the hooks! also mixed in with some horse sized chinaman. Now this is fantastic news for jacket lovers but disastorous for us normal fishos who just love to go fishing to lose umpteen dozen hooks, sinkers, traces etc. Water temps didnt help ranging from 16.8-17.3 but a lot of visible nutrient in the green water.

Actually think we will be in for a very rough summer with the amount of young jackets around as with the bigger ones that have moved in. Going to be a looooonnnnggg summer of tackle loss.

Hey mate good to see you got out. We went out on Saturday from botany heads and trolled some small skirts all the way to bondi. Not one touch. Water was great but temps I got where in between 15.7 and 16. On the turn around back toward the back was planning to do some bottom bashing for a few lizards, but out of no where came this howling southerly. Reports got that one truely wrong this time. It was blowing hard and the water was a real mess. Ended up slowly making our way back into the bay which was also pretty messy with that southerly. We tried of the oil wharf for a few port Jackson's around the meter mark. Decided to move over to moli point where we saw three plus one baby seal sun bathing on the stones. Awesome sight but between the shark and seal I'm starting to think how cold this water really is. Anyway scored more sharks so called it a day. Can't wait for these warm currents to arrive and the fish with it. I just hope this wind buggers off!

Cheers Daniel

Did a similar trip on Saturday with my mate. Got a legal trevally while trying for yellowtail at Grotto. Should have stayed there.

Managed a bonito trolling around under Mac. light then tried for the Peak but gave up when the southerly started.

Tried the bottom on the way home but lost hooks and got one jacket before the breeze got too much.

Persisted with the trolling in close but only with the wind and the mate got another bonito. They seem to like the smaller bibbed lures, 3 to 4 inch medium depth.

Same story with us as well...planned to head down south to the Hump on saturday and was stopped halfway from hacking due to the southerly. Conditions were like a washing machine so headed out to jibbon for a few drifts only to find jackets between the 30-60m mark. very few flatties far between mainly undersize. Just a waste of time. Lost about 7 sinkers.
