matey Posted September 18, 2012 Posted September 18, 2012 hi all i am trying to get my boat licence in griffith nsw does any1 know of any place that does the practical boating experiance around this area i tried ABC boating and they said the closest place is wollongong which is like 5 hours drive from my house makes it really hard 2 get a boat licence thanks 4 your help
oz_brett Posted September 18, 2012 Posted September 18, 2012 Have a chat to people that have ski boats in the area, if that does you no good my next suggestion would be talking to the guys at the boat shop (if Griffith still has one). They used to have exceptions for people that were over a certain distance from waterways but now with the new combined RMS you guys out west were probably forgot about. Brett
matey Posted September 18, 2012 Author Posted September 18, 2012 i might give the rta a call 2morrow 2 see if they have exceptions thanks 4 your help
matey Posted September 18, 2012 Author Posted September 18, 2012 the rta or rms are hopeless they said if wollongong is the closet that do it than that is what i have 2 do 2 get it so it looks like a 11 hour return drive and 2 days in hotel i have 2 say its a bit of a joke they should employ people out here 2 do it if thats what they want u 2 do
kaiser Posted September 19, 2012 Posted September 19, 2012 i got my boat license a year or 2 ago in leeton through the ABC course, keep an eye for the ads in the classifieds, they seem to come out this way fairly regularly. have the requirements changed to obtain your license? as i had to fill out a log book for an amount of hours (cant remember how many) of experience with someone who had their boat license and take that to the wagga maritime (at rta office) with the certificate from the course.
matey Posted September 19, 2012 Author Posted September 19, 2012 i did the theory part of the course online i just need the practical experiance
kaiser Posted September 19, 2012 Posted September 19, 2012 the easiest way to get practical experience is to go fishing with a mate who has a boat, or as oz brett said talk to the ski boaters and the like. Most people will be happy to help out a fellow boatie/fisho gain the necessary knowledge/experience.
matey Posted November 12, 2012 Author Posted November 12, 2012 i finally got the book sighned 3 times did the test at the RMS 2day but ofcourse u cant pay for the licence with them even though they are link so they say lol they have 2 send it away to the maritime,,,, does any1 know how long it will take for them 2 prosess the licence i am goin away in 10 days should it be ready by than thanks for your help
