hi guys, well been off line alot due to work and took family bush for 2 weeks so was desperate for a fish. last minute dash friday night for gear and weed left me shattered as couldnt find my Blacky bag of terminal gear and only weed was old stuff that was very soft..

head out sunrise for a couple hrs with only one of kids spin rod loaded with 2 hooks but suppose have to make do.

flick float in and doesnt hardly settle before its going down, woooohoooo.

lift rod come up tight and its game on. rod fully loaded and im in trouble then i start to win.once i land fish i see second hooks missing and see why i was getting punished..a double first drop..

only problem is i now only have one hook have to re do rig using the 10lb mainline as leader ..

this set the scene for a red hot bite over the next 2 hrs and landed about 20 fish kept about 10 for a feed and missed lots due to shitty weed too soft.

fish were mostly 33 to 38cm with a couple in the low 40's and left them biting which was very hard to do.

went back today armed with the best weed ive seen this yr fully rigged proper etc and i really had to work hard for a down. bad tide with clear water but once sun was up i could see fish were only in little groups and moving around alot. sight fished them alot today and converted half a dozen to 40cm and only missed 3 downs so gotta be happy with that i suppose. i got absolutely owned by a very big one way over mid 40's as a little group moved in but once i quickly grabbed the backup rod they had moved on so missed another shot at them. 2 very different days but i really enjoyed the challenge today nearly as much as last week even though not many caught today..

are other guys finding them slowing down now or was it just one of them days. ???

They have definately slowed down the past couple of months, down south of Botany Bay. Indications are that it is improving. Will let you know on Tuesday :)

Good catch. Didn't think anyone else used a two hook rig. I have only done so twice. Hooked a blackie on one and a bream on the other, one time up at Nelson Bay. Made for an interesting fight.

Stormy,kingfisher... Its amazing how different the different waterways of hacking/botany/harbour and pitty/hawks are with the spawning run.. Pitty is usually running later than say harbour for example. I think the really low tide with very clear water caused them to be out in deeper waters and unfortunately i couldnt stay long enough to find out..

If i dont get out chasing kings next w/e i will see if they ste still around in big numbers with better tides.

As for cooking i nearly always boneless fillet and either crumb or like i did tonight crispy skin fried with salad .. Yummo..

Nice haul of blackies there Roosterman. Been hard trying to find

them landbased. But I had the opportunity to go out last Sunday

week with Luderick-Angle (Royce) & Jonno44(Amber)on her boat to

fish the Hacking.Ended up with a good bag full. Went out yesterday

with Royce & Hawkesbass(Trevour)& fished west of the bridge & did

ok.Signs are they maybe back on in the harbour.

G'day Steve great catch of blackies you caught,

good to meet you the over day i tryed around picnic point with not much luck two undersize fish but good fights.

So move to another spot to find two old blokes were cleaning there catch which they had about half a dozen fish, but one fish would have gone a good 45cm no worries.

think i might try a bigger hook or two hooks next time, its good to get back to chasing blackies :1fishing1:

cheers Troy

Luderick-Angler (Royce) is a top blackie fisherman. I've learnt so much

from him in the art of blackfishing. Every weekend we go out chasing them.

He is tops when it comes to finding them. He's so good that he can smell

them floating dead in the water :074:

Well i had a quick go at the blackies this morning before work and seems that i was right on that clear low water from last w/e. took me 10 min to find them then over next hr or so non stop action. Fish were much bigger with average 38-40 cm with a couple in low 30's. and couple float stealin buggers.
