Longer Bait Caster Rod

Hi Raiders,

When i cast metal slugs and the like from the stones, I use my daiwa luna 300 or calcutta in the similair size.

I got them on a daiwa tierra 2 pc at the moment its about 6 foot so its pretty small.

I can cast a mile with these reels but i could do alot better with a longer rod, plus my lure wont get bashed around on the rods as i bring it up with a longer rod - not to mention better clearance when casting from the shore.

Can anyone recommend a rod brand/type with a longer butt, preferrably 10-12 foot in thr 6-10kg range?

Cheers, Stan

Ugly Stiks from the USA

They have the most diverse range of overhead rods - Any lengths, 1 or 2 piece and covering all classes from 4kg to 25kg

Personally i have a Ugly Stik Tiger rod - 7ft, 2 piece, 5-25kg - its perfect - you can get them in the 10ft+ range too

Im casting anywhere from 40 - 120grams (so far), havent looked anything heavier.

The luna isnt the quickest reel but it does the job for salmon and taylor.

I was thinking a spin reel but i also like using my bait casters which is why im after an overhead stick.

Thanks Kulch,

Do they have anything in graphite?

Cheers,

The Tiger series of Ugly Stiks uses a graphite core with an e-glass outer layer - which means it gets the sensitivity and lightness of graphite, but also shares the same strenght/knockabout resistence of a fibreglass rod...........its called the Howald process, and is a legacy of the ugly stik brand

The rods are amazing - they feel great, and maintain alot of flex/sensivity without sacrificing power

Edit - the only reason i knew about these things, is that i fought tooth and nail to find a 2 piece overhead rod in 25kg class - in australia they only stock LBG rods which fit 2 piece 25kgs, and normally around 8-10foot which is too tall - i wanted a general purpose rod, i can use for my boat and stones - and i found it, 7ft, 2 piece, 25kg overhead bliss
