pappy
hi i have a yammy 60 4 stroke .when i start a day boating with a fully charged battery the volte meter showes 13.2 to 13.5 volts at idle but go up to 14.8 volts above 4500 rpm should the volts be that high.thanks
helliconia
Perfectly normal pappy, mine does exactly the same. It means your alternator is working correctly, generating more than the engine is using.
pappy
will high volts like that harm the battery .
helliconia
Not at that level, they need a slightly higher voltage being fed in to get and maintain a charge. 14-15 volts while running is very normal. I'd be more worried if it dropped to 13 volts while running.

cheap charlie
Some deep cycle batteries are only suitable to be charged at 14.4V or less and will vary from different manufacturers. If your battery is just a conventional lead acid unit then 14.8v is fine. When recharging a battery at home, most smart chargers will charge at 14.8v
