Hi Guys,

I was wondering if silicone is good to use to adhere down boat carpet. I was in a large named hardware yesterday and they had boat carpet at a good price.

However, the guy there (said he was a fisho) reckons that he uses silicone instead of glue as it it is easier to remove later for maintenance etc.

Have you guys heard of this, would you use silicone instead of the carper glues?

The carpet in my cockpit is held in place with press studs that way I can lift it up to clean under it and hang it on the line to dry. In the cabin I have used Velcro which works very well same again easy out rope clean around

if I was going to use silicone I would be using sikaflex its a silicon adhesive. Not sure why you would need to remove the carpet I've never had the need to remove mine I clean my carpet with bleach & pressure washer unless you have a nice big luxurious boat like davidA.

+1 David might have a cleaner on the books ;) A few dabs of sicca will hold it in place till you do need to remove it.
