Dusky_Chaser Posted November 18, 2012 Posted November 18, 2012 Hey guys. Fished last week with good mate Troy (mialla) at Mallacoota and Wonboyn. The Wonboyn part, was a boys trip with some good laughs. It fished well but was full of small fish mostly 35-45cm....hundreds of them. One of the boys landed a 72cm there. The Mallacoota part of the trip though was purely to target and film some big flathead. Lets just say its good when a plan comes together. I was the lucky one that saw the fish and so Troy ended up behind the camera a bit ....thats fishing sometimes.....but we didn't care who caught them and we were both rapt with the footage and the results of the two days. There was a 71 81 90 and 96cm landed. Heres a few shots of the better fish but stay tuned for the footage which will be released on youtube in the next week or so as REEL IT IN " HOW TO CATCH BIG FLATHEAD" where we will share some of our tips on these big girls. Heres the 81cm This one went 90cm and went like a rocket....probably the biggest run i've ever seen in a flathead. This was the first big girl caught for the trip and went 96cm and weighed in at 7kg.....a beast. Releasing her
vo2c88 Posted November 18, 2012 Posted November 18, 2012 Wow now that's some fishing. Good work gents. Dreaming of the day to land one of those beauties. Regards Vic

jdanger Posted November 19, 2012 Posted November 19, 2012 Very nice indeed. Can I ask what gear you were using?
jenno64 Posted November 19, 2012 Posted November 19, 2012 (edited) Whoah Dusky that is a serious outing with that many trophies in an outing you must still be buzzing! Great shots too! Can't wait to read more about the lures, depth, terrain and other variables as would many flatty fans! Bring on the YouTube! Edited November 19, 2012 by jenno64
Jewdreamer Posted November 19, 2012 Posted November 19, 2012 Wow! you guys have got to get catch of the year! Well done, it's lovely when a plan comes together!
plankton Posted November 19, 2012 Posted November 19, 2012 I wouldn't be wading around in those waters. They are huge. Flatties on steroids!!
Dusky_Chaser Posted November 19, 2012 Author Posted November 19, 2012 Awesome crocs mate, all dark fish... What's the visibility like where you caught them? Hey mate. The water clarity was pretty good. The release shot was were the fish was caught so you can see its fairly clear. They actually look darker in the shots than they were..
Dusky_Chaser Posted November 19, 2012 Author Posted November 19, 2012 Very nice indeed. Can I ask what gear you were using? All fish were caught on Nitro Baby Vipers.... They are a 3-6 kg rod....we explain why we use this weight of rod in the video. I had a 4000 Stella on one and a older model 4000 sustain on the other.. Cheers
dhype Posted November 19, 2012 Posted November 19, 2012 Amazing collection of fish... so close to the magical 100cm fish! (there must be a 100cm flatty in Mallacoota!) The smiles in the photos tell the whole story Well done!
brendong Posted November 19, 2012 Posted November 19, 2012 Seriously Coota has it all, horse lizards in the spring and summer and stonker breambo's in the winter....it's a serious hike to get there from Sydney and Melbourne, that's probably the reason it's one of best estuary fisheries on the east coast. Great trip mate!
erroll Posted November 19, 2012 Posted November 19, 2012 Hats off to you mate, well done on all accounts. Cheers
aero.gard Posted November 19, 2012 Posted November 19, 2012 Wow awsome work boys must be happy with that trip
Scratchie Posted November 19, 2012 Posted November 19, 2012 They are some serious lizards. Love seeing them been released. Hopefully they jump on my line next time!
stickybeak Posted November 20, 2012 Posted November 20, 2012 Nothing better than catching a big flatty and letting them go can't wait for the video boys
