Aqua Naut Posted December 5, 2012 Posted December 5, 2012 Well day 3 lookin like it will be a pearler however could be the last to get outside as the weather will be turning for the worst for the next few days with strong winds and big swells expecting. The boys are all fired up and raring to go and on Team Whitewashes minds was that Mako Shark sighted and then verified as Team Viking had taken some remarkable footage beneath the boat to show all of us on the night that there realy was a monster under the boat. He was a beauty alright and up early on the crack of dawn we head out from the ramp and back to our hot spot once again. Team Viking was not far behind and Team Pascoe and Team Edwin were sleeping in just alittle longer than expected but finaly made themselves to the boat ramp mid morning. Finaly after a 45 min run we pull up and start our trail to find the beast we were all looking for. The game rods were out and the big baits were on the drift out amongst the burley trail. The wind was just perfect and it was a slow drift. In the mean time we all had rods out bottom bouncing and only a few fish were coming up Leather jackets were becoming a menious as we were losing quit abit of gear in the process. Just after an hour gone the balloon which was out 100m behind the boat suddenly disappears and the Shimano Tiagra starts screaming Team Whitewash is now in alert mode but it spat the bait and its a false alarm. Within 2 minutes the predator surfaces and starts lapping the boat and also desides to head butt the yammie in the mean time. He was a beauty as we called it a Mako around the 60 to 80 kg mark. He had been with us for over an hour and had spat the bait 2 times until Terry decides to feed out a 1 and half kilo Squid in the burley trail and within a few seconds of hitting the water bingo he inhaled it and Kevs turn to bust his back bringing in the prize All systems go and he was screaming out line like there was no tomorrow. Fighting him for over an hour and 3kms away from our hookup location this guy was not giving in. Several times we him get close to the boat and he decides to give us another run thinking we might see a leap from him but it never came about. Finaly we wore him out after 90 mins of real fight Kev gets him to the boat and you just wouldnt believe our luck a pod of Dolphins and a seal decide to checkout the distress happening in the water....by this stage we were thinking the worst and it just woke him up for one last time out of the water he comes with a small leap most probally panic from the dolphins beneath we get him close again and its The fight is over high fives all round and it was a perfect catch. Team Viking was close by and they too were wraped ....Kev with his first Mako priceless. Back to the ramp for a weight and a bigs thanks to the local tackle shop wildblue for getting down there to do the honours. Offical weight 78.4kgs By this stage it looks certain the Trophy was heading to NSW this year and Kev doing a surperb job with the help of Terry wrestling the shark and Paul with the gaff bringing the beast into the boat. A fantastic encouter once again and cant wait for next year. Tight lines
farizzy Posted December 6, 2012 Posted December 6, 2012 nice one mate, awsome catch, was that Bob and Chris that took the pics. we stay with them during the Tuna run, Great blokes with great fishing brains
GrahamW Posted December 6, 2012 Posted December 6, 2012 Whats with the sign behind you, dont thow fish waste in the water ???? Thought it was good to recycle.
farizzy Posted December 7, 2012 Posted December 7, 2012 During tuna season everyone was throwing the heads and scraps of fish in the water , this attracted heaps of stingrays and seals. At one stage before the railing went up a seal grabbed a young kid and started pulling him in the water, I herd the old man grabbed the kid just in time, now they have big skips to throw your fish wastes in ....
Pongrass18ft Posted December 7, 2012 Posted December 7, 2012 Well done on the capture. Plenty of BBQS coming up. Chris.
