DaveTheBoy Posted December 6, 2012 Posted December 6, 2012 Needed to test a few reels after a recent dunk in the sea (and subsequent clean up!). A short session was in order before work at Iron Cove. Managed a few fish, the best of them a bream of about 25cm and a flathead about 35cm. Sorry about the photo quality - always hard snapping it one-handed with your phone. Also got a very healthy bream from under the wharf - seems a little brush with a predator hasn't stopped him yet! All the fish were released. Cheers, Dave Tide = low to ebb Lure = squidgie wriggler 100mm Jig = 1/8oz #2 owner Line = 4lb braid to 6lb fluro
pomey_git Posted December 6, 2012 Posted December 6, 2012 nice mate. Great way to start the day. I've seen a few small bream and pinkines with marks like that. What do you think is leaving a bite like that?
mako2000 Posted December 6, 2012 Posted December 6, 2012 Ive always thought that its maybe from being ripped out of a professionals net.
rjc123 Posted December 6, 2012 Posted December 6, 2012 Nice work mate I caught a 38cm a few months ago with a similar injury. I thought maybe a small bull shark may have a had a go? For the smaller bream and pinkies, probably bigger tailor harrassing them....
Robinsoi Posted December 6, 2012 Posted December 6, 2012 Great work Dave Nice way to set the mood for the day! Hope the reel service prooved to be a success. Keep up the good work. Ian
DaveTheBoy Posted December 6, 2012 Author Posted December 6, 2012 Cheers - yes I hadn't considered the injury being from a net escape - but that makes sense to me...
joseph2593 Posted December 7, 2012 Posted December 7, 2012 Not a bad session mate! Had a go last week in Hawthorne canal for one 40cm flatty. Might go this arvo to target bream on plastics. Does anyone know whether the run in or run out is better for bream at iron cove?
jkm1667 Posted December 7, 2012 Posted December 7, 2012 always found bream are better on the run in...flatties run out
LungFai Posted December 7, 2012 Posted December 7, 2012 Injury looks too round to be a net escape. Looks like a predator missed it's target by an inch, Tailors usually take the tail end out first so i'm guessing that bream had a run in with a Jewie.

mjacd Posted December 7, 2012 Posted December 7, 2012 Nobody eats fish caught from Iron Cove do they? You would be suprised....
gavw Posted December 7, 2012 Posted December 7, 2012 You would be suprised.... ive ate a bream caught at birchgrove years ago which isnt far from iron cove i wouldnt eat crabs from the parra or georges river system.
Kevsta Posted December 12, 2012 Posted December 12, 2012 Nobody eats fish caught from Iron Cove do they? I've never eaten any fish caught from iron cove but have given legal sized fish to elderly fisherman with handlines fishing for a feed.
