Claire2012 Posted December 12, 2012 Posted December 12, 2012 Hi guys I've been reading these forums for a while now, but have never posted before. What a great place for information! I have a question that I'm hoping the gurus here might be able to answer, because I can't find an answer online elsewhere. I bought a nice little spinning outfit about 6-7 years ago - specifically for trout. But I've now moved from Canberra to the mid north coast and want to fish the estuaries. The reel is a Shimano Nexave 2500FA. Can anyone tell me whether this reel is OK for saltwater use. Or will I bugger it? with thanks
rjc123 Posted December 12, 2012 Posted December 12, 2012 Nexave is fine for saltwater use. Just like with every other reel used in salt water, give it a good rinse and wash after each session and it'll be fine.
rockfisherman Posted December 12, 2012 Posted December 12, 2012 Cedargirl I'm not willing to bet money on it, but I feel fairly confident you won't encounter any problems using in a saltwater situation, as long as you wash down and lubricate after use it should be fine. If you really need the assurance, I suggest you call shimano for a definitive answer. Fishingphase
Claire2012 Posted December 12, 2012 Author Posted December 12, 2012 Thank you very much to both of you. Now I can fish in peace! BTW - I always wash my tackle down after every use, but I don't lubricate. Is that important to do every time? Do you need to break the reels down to lubricate? Cheers
LungFai Posted December 13, 2012 Posted December 13, 2012 Not everytime, but regularly. Not sure how your reel receives the lube but mine has an insertion point where i can squeeze a few drops in every so often. My oldman used to take the spool off the older models and there was an insertion point somewhere in there.....he never did trust me with his reels so am not too sure how it was done.
