adsco
HI Raiders I'm a long time reader first time poster, Well let me start by saying I have been trying to crack the squid code for the past 2 months, fishing land based every second afternoon. I have chased squid up the coast for a while but never in sydney I have more squid jigs then a japanese tackle store and broke my last squid rod so I bought a new Shimano Sephia land based to help gain distance off the stones. As I have fished every afternoon for the past 2 weeks all I have caught is 2 dirty big Octopus and 1 cuttlefish with A BIG FAT DONUT!!! on the squid. I was becoming extremely frustrated with myself, always doubting my decision and technique as with so much squid fishing my technique has evolved to the "violent jerk'' as seen by the japanese. Today I finished work at 4 as my rods and tackle permeantly stay on the ute. I proceed to the the spot which has all the prime makings of a squid honey hole Kelp, clear water, sand, hard structure. I tied on a Yamashita 3.0 jig in natural (blue) i worked a likely looking weed patch for about 20mins with zilch! not even a follower kept persisting then bang I'm on a little bit of wee came out I was that excited FINALLY!! DISASTER squid dropped. "Here we go again" stayed working the same spot and I was on set the hook this time and landed a nice piece of kingie candy continued to land 2 more on the same jig. Worked the spot for the next hour and changed my jig to a Yamashita in 2.5 (pink) as it was just heading to low tide and slowed down the sink rate over the weed bed and landed one more to make 4 squid all up. Rod; Shimano Shephia Reel: shimano ???? Line; Diawa tournament at 10LB Leader; Fc Rock 12LB Jig; Ya-ma-shit-a

Took me ages to land my first squid too after dropping a few and losing a few nice jigs. Proves that persistence really pays in this game of ours. mrsquid
great work mate!! and it only took 2 months that's not so bad don't know where you were, but I've had to work really hard to get squid over the last two months, things see to have be really quiet at my local spot, 2 months ago you would be disapointed to only take home 7 or so no your stoked if you get 3. I find using the smaller jigs will increase your chances too, the biggest I use is a 1.8g yammashito natural yellow with dash of pink on top, saying that I've seen allot of guys getting good squid on black jig, even well into the night. whenever i drop a squid i just stop retrieving and 9/10 times it will be taken again. But you found your spot now hopefully it will produce regulaly and you'll have plenty of candy to catch the monster fish. great work, i hope you keep getting them.
