filthmonger Posted December 18, 2012 Posted December 18, 2012 Hey guys, im looking at purchasing a down rigger for my boat its a Quintrex 420 Explorer (shown below). Mainly for trolling live squid and yakkas around botany bay and out from the Port Hacking. Just something fairly basic as i dont want to spend to much money. Any ideas would be much appreciated. Sam
Salmon_Hunter Posted December 19, 2012 Posted December 19, 2012 Scotty 1050, you cant go wrong. Import it in from the states from online shop, otherwise you will pay through the nose for it at your local shops.
filthmonger Posted December 19, 2012 Author Posted December 19, 2012 After doing a bit of research on home made ones i decided to have a crack, didnt come out too bad. Old beach rod, alvey reel and 100 pound mono.

filthmonger Posted December 21, 2012 Author Posted December 21, 2012 The one on there is a 3 pounder, it winds up pretty smooth.

macka17 Posted December 26, 2012 Posted December 26, 2012 Hi. I've got a Cannon now. Use in deep dams and Spanno trolling. Prior to. For yrs. First a Paravane. Then a 6in Alvey. on a short butt section (Bent butt game stick butt I had. with a bit on end with a tip roller Works real well. I find the Fish shaped bombs are best. I made a mould for 6 and 8 lb After buying some on net fairly cheap ($25\35) The lighter ones drift back when trolling and you can't see them in sounder. When You can see what depth they are then you can add depth of whatever lure to that Helps keep ém in fish's zone.
