TerrifyingTurkey Posted December 19, 2012 Posted December 19, 2012 Put my alarm on for 4am this morning but unfortunately slept through it and got up at 6:30. left for Gunnamatta bay at 7:20 and arrived at darook park at 8:30. I started on the main beach with a 80mm wasabi squidgie with no luck after half an hour. then headed near the rocks and changed to a 2.5 inch gulp jiggling grub which I got a fish on first cast. Once he was on he pulled my line about 10 metres and shook the hook off. After that I kept at it for about an hour with no results. I then walked along the rocks to a smaller beach (with only two people there)where I went back to my squidgie lure and after an hour got a hit. It put up a good fight and I brought it to shore to see that it was my first ever flathead. I released it and went back in the water and saw around 20 baby flathead swimming towards the rocks. After another 2 hours with nothing I packed up and went home. Unfortunately didn't have a camera but I am goin again sometime this week and plan to bring it with me. Awesome day amd was glad to catch my first fish on soft plastics.

Robinsoi Posted December 19, 2012 Posted December 19, 2012 Nice work mate and congratulations May it be your first of many on soft plastics Well done and keep up the great work! Ian
rockfisherman Posted December 19, 2012 Posted December 19, 2012 Good on ya mate, the addiction begins. Word of friendly advice: you will find yourself involuntarily buying a pack of plastic here and a pack of plastics there, before you know it you've got way to many. It is good to try different shapes and colours, but then you get stuck in this endless circle of "did I have the right shape and not the right colour, or the right colour a d not the right shape" and again you find yourself with packets and packets of plastics. I was lucky enough to pass on 20 or so packets to some one less fortunate than myself, so I feel they wernt wasted. I keep a pack of slick rigs handy at all times along with a pack of gulp and some jigheads, if I know I'm going for a few days of fishing I'll buy 4-6 packs depending on which mates I'm going fishing with ie ones that bring their own and ones that scab. I don't like carrying many gulp around because your entire bag will eventually smell like gulp if you leave a half used pack in there, juices leak. Cheers and good luck Fishingphase
