Hundgie Posted December 20, 2012 Posted December 20, 2012 Hi all I have 2001 560 coastrunner with a 115 merc 2 stroke My trouble is a cant seem to get the correct trolling speed for pulling marlin and tuna lures its either a tad too slow or up on the plane. Can the carbs be ajusted to allow the 2nd stage to come in a little later or would a hydrofoil allow a slower plane speed with less engine revs Any advice would be great. Cheers

Cheers Hi, nothing really wrong with your I-4 Merc, they are a honest engine but with their 2+2 system they are the worst for what you want to do. The bottom cylinders "kick" in around 1800RPM and that is where most boats like to troll at, so not much you can do with the engine expect play with prop pitch and fitting a permatrim-they are th best. I would make sure you have the right pitched prop first, what is your WOT RPM? Cheers, Huey.
Bentstik Posted December 20, 2012 Posted December 20, 2012 What speed to rpm are you getting when trolling ???????
