So I went fishing a couple of days ago at Middle Harbour. Around 30 min before leaving I had a 3/4 of cat food left in a can so I decided to chuck it all in. 5mins later, I hear some swooshing in the water and no joke, I see a kingfish ! It would of had to been close to a meter ! The kingy kept swimming left and right real quick and I noticed it was trying to eat one of those big sea mullet. This all happened within 10 seconds.

This was the second time I've seen something like this. The first time was at Balmoral and I remember a kingy coming within 10mins of chucking a whole can of cat food in. It was a smaller one, around 40cm. Both times happened during the day and was in about 2-3m water, so I got a good look and was 100% that it was a king fish

Cat food is my main burley additive. I mix it with bread crumbs. It's not the cat food which attracts the bigger fish, imo it's the action of the smaller bait fish creating havoc as they tear through the burley. Whenever I have seen a king surface like that, they never have any interest in anything you put out in front of them.

I always use cat food only in my burly cage, and hordes of yakkas & baitfish turn up, the pilchard and whiting is a good one but all the seafood type flavours work good. The only downside is keeping the empty cans on your boat for proper disposal. But quick rinse in the water keeps the smell level down.

Tight lines,
